Hope Grandma is ok and gets better soon x

Lol Lilt, no need to panic I didn't read anything into that x DDILs parents are pretty crazy about what they spend on the DGC but to be honest both DS & DDIL appear to appreciate what I do more as they know there's a lot of thought goes into my gifts.

Lucky, you don't need to defend MIL, she's entitled to spend what she wants on her DGS x

  • Hi lucky - what a coat amazing how lucky!?! great news you didn't have to pay for it. If it makes you feel better sometimes at that age having something that cool (as it sounds!) really gives you a little more confidence at school etc. I was the same with my first 'designer' item... silly really but its the age for silliness!

Hi Lucky I loved your story about the coat. And that you are wearing one from your grandma. I am wearing a cast off from my dear old aunt.

My kids never had the expensive and fashionable but I know how much they would have loved the Kudos of being bang up to date. It is great for your DS1.

  • Hello people! I had come in on the clothes and coat-gate conversation as I am the cast off queen of my family. At the age of 48 I have so many clothes given me by my 76 old mum it's ridiculous! Thankfully she is actually more conscious of her appearance than me so for work i am clothed in quite decent togs. I'm really grateful to her as I could never afford the things she passes on to me. Hurrah for generous mothers and grans! Outside work I am Ms Supermarket Sweep and dressed entirely in sale price sainsbobs t shirts and jeans.

I remember my mum crying when I was about ten because all three of us had outgrown our clarks shoes within two months of the school term starting. I think clothing me is one of her ways of showing she cares.

The superdry coat will really make a difference to DS's star rating at school, as a teacher I see some groups of pupils for whom things like that really matter and then others who revel in the cheaper the better. Really weird the way they split into two groups. My DS and DD have always known that I don't have enough money as I discuss my finances with them (as a divorcee I have perhaps been too open) and they've always saved from their pocket money for anything they want outside the 'norm'. However, it depends on your family situation whether this is a goer of an idea or not. I just make up my parenting (I use that term humourouly for what I do!) as I go along!!

You are amazing Lucky!! I am in awe of you and read your thread avidly. Best wishes for a restful night and that your utility company will sort itself out!
With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

  • Granny, up until an hour ago everything was ok, I just didn't make it on as I was busy all day. But then DH had a seizure just after 2am :(. The buccal only stopped it slightly and then the seizure took hold again, so I had to dial 999. His breathing was awful and he was unresponsive. When the ambulance crew arrived he was calm, but like in a deep sleep and wouldn't open his eyes or talk to them. We agreed to let him sleep it off but I have to ring 999 again if he fits again.

He was great yesterday, no signs of imminent fits at all, but I hadn't had much sleep since we went to bed at 11pm as he was very jerky. I now of course can't sleep at all!

  • Just been updating my 'seizure list' for DH (date/time/type etc). Can you believe this is the 2nd year in a row he has fitted on the early hours on 13th Jan?? 13th Jan is cancelled next year!! We will go straight from the 12th to the 14th!

He also seizured on 1st October two years running. I think we'll skip that one this year too!

He is busy snoring now but still jerky. I'm going to try and get a couple of hours before the alarm goes off. Fingers crossed he doesn't 'go' again Xx
