    Hi Lucky
I know I don't post much, but I was so sorry to read that your OH had had a seizure. But wow he got over 6 months, that is amazing. I know you wanted to go longer, but isn't this the longest ever. That is brilliant.

Re the job. The thing is that is YOUR respite care going to the job. So I agree that money that you earn is probably eaten up with the petrol and those odds and sods you buy afterwards. But the fact that it gets you out of the house and gives YOU some breathing room is priceless. So if you do leave the job you would need to contact social services about getting scheduled respite care for OH. Otherwise I can see your health breaking down if you were carer virtually 24/7.

    Good luck

I am sorry that DH had a seizure after such a long time but very impressed that DS1 knew exactly what to do. He isn't the little boy I met but very much more grown up.

Please take time to let yourself recover from the extra stress this has placed on you. I would say continue at work if it is a useful time out for you. If not be a carer and stay at home mum but find another outlet that is just for you for a couple of hours a week. I love my knit and natter group. It is just two hours a week. I just sit quietly on my worst days. On good days I knit a bit and natter a lot.

  • Thank you so much EVERYONE for all your lovely messages. You all deserve detailed and interesting replies but I'm afraid I'm too tired to think. Please know how much your support means though. Love you all lots.

Everything is ok. No more seizures. Didn't sleep well again last night though (this time thanks to DS2) so I'm super shattered now. Busy day of swimming lessons, counselling and parkour.

I'm still waiting for an assessment of DH's care needs and a subsequent carer's assessment, so hopefully some sort of respite will be arranged then. I also think if MiL wasn't needed to watch DH and the boys any more if I gave up work then I'd feel more comfortable utilising her at other times to give me a break. (Not that I have decided one way or the other about work).

Counsellor told me today she is leaving in 2 weeks time!

  • Lost a pound at chub club and got my 3 and a half stone award :j:j.

    DH gained 9.5lbs  .

Swimming lesson for DS2 again this morn and DS1 swam at the same time, but DH and I just watched. He is almost back to 'normal' but we didn't want to risk the pool, and besides, he hurt his side during the seizure and has been in quite a lot of pain since. We then tried to go to the Centre for Life but couldn't get parked anywhere - guess everyone had the same thought due to the horrendous downpours today. Ended up back at home for the day which at least was the cheaper option!

Been ages since I've posted, but I was sorry to hear your hubby had had another seizure after such a long time. It was an incredible length that he'd got up to. In some ways it will now be another goal to beat. Not so sure if that's a good thing, or a bad thing however.

Have you been to Centre of Life before? Curious about it. Got sat evening booked there, and just wondered if it is worth it. Interested in the Game 2.0, but unfortunately if it's only available at the listed time I've got, will miss it, but debating if I go back Sunday to do a proper visit and catch it then.
  • Lifeforms, we've been to CfL a few times. They change the exhibits a few times per year and we go if the new one takes our fancy. The boys want to see the Game 2.0 things, and also the 4D motion ride which is currently SpongeBob! It's not cheap though!! Are you there for something special Sat night? Xx

    Hi Lucky, :hello:

Congratulations on hitting three and a half stones off! :T

    Random thoughts while gardening..
    A) Wondering whether DH's nervousness when you go out might increase the possibility of a seizure, as you mentioned earlier..?
..Could be counteracted by praising DS1's excellent handling of the emergency - probably repeated many times because of DH's poor short-term memory - as DS1 has indeed proved he is up to the challenge (and personally I don't think 'bigging him up' is going to do any damage whatsoever to DS1's development into a fine young man ;)).

    B) Sugar cravings and weight gain.. How long is it since DH had detailed blood tests done? Sugar is more complicated than simple chocolate cravings which would suggest low magnesium, and it is known that DH struggles with his sodium levels.. There is plenty of info available; charts showing which elements the body actually needs when cravings for particular 'junk foods' are noticed - have a look, does anything ring bells?

    C) Re carers assessment - you might have to throw a tearful wobbler down the 'phone; threaten to walk out because you're at the end of your tether in order to get priority attention (my niece works in this field; they're so busy she admits those are the only cases they have time to look into, sad though that is :().

Right, back to the nettles before it starts raining again.. :)

Personally Robin, I think it's too early for Lucky to do anything apart from look after herself & her family after the shock of this happening after six months seizure free.

I don't know if you have experienced seizures in a loved one but I felt enough guilt to make myself ill so I feel for Lucky & apart from support I think it's too early to offer advice.
  • Fizzy, thank you for your support, but I assure you Robin has nothing but good intentions with her advice/ideas. She does know what it's like for a loved one to seizure and has a wealth of knowledge from which I have benefited from immensely.

I don't know what I would do without ALL of you on here.

Robin, DH had bloods done for sodium a few weeks ago, though I'm not sure how detailed they were in terms of checking any other levels. I can check with his GP and request some more if necessary. Re leaving DS1 in charge, I can honestly say although I know he CAN cope, I also know he doesn't WANT to. He is only 10 so there is plenty more time for him to be the grown up later on. Still on the fence about what to do there.

How sad that that is the case re Carer's Assessment :(.

We made it to the Centre for Life today and it was fab. More so because MiL came too and paid us all in. The boys enjoyed the Gaming exhibit, being scientists and the 4D motion ride. Good day but then DH became a bit vague onthe way home. Hoping he will perk up now he's had a rest and his evening meal.
