Useful items for 6 month old - ideas please!

Not particularly 'charming' but very MSE (for parents who don't want to be buying nappies for another two years or more): Decide which training system is to be used - potty or fitted toilet seat - and start practising as soon as Little One can sit.
**Note, pooey nappies must be changed straight away for this to work. An older baby who is used to 'sitting in it' is much harder to train!
Yes this is an old-fashioned idea these days; twenty to thirty years ago it was rare for a healthy child to still be in nappies beyond their second birthday (most of those were boys who tend to be a little slower to catch on, particularly at night).0 -
Don't buy a brand new Bumbo. There are so many 2nd hand ones out there, and babies either love them or hate them.
At 6 months my daughter didn't like anything where she was sat down, she wanted to be on her feet all the time.
My daugheter loved her Learn and Groove (Jumperoos had only just come out,and so no 2nd hand ones available), although by 6 months she had progressed from sitting in it to cruising round the outside of it.
If your LO is cruising, what about first shoes. Expensive, but essential if you have laminate to give grip.
Agree with grobags, so useful.
If people are getting clothing they need to remember that 9-12 months will be getting in to warmer weather so stuff that layers is good.Zebras rock0 -
Highly recommend the Jumperoo - could hardly get our son out of it!
With push-a-long walkers bear in mind the surface you'll be using it on. We have wooden floors and the walker went far too fast for him to stay upright!
Another suggestion: a (modest) ball pit?0 -
I know that it isn't Moneysaving but I loved my Beaba baby cook.
(For when you start weaning)
You put the veg/meat into the top, it steams it then you drop it down and it purees it. Now, I totally know you can do it with a hand blender which is much cheaper but just in terms of easiness, I loved it. I could put it in, get on with other things and come back and all was sorted. You can get them on ebay for about half price.0 -
My LO hated the Bumbo. How about a trike (something like this) or we have just got her a ride-on which she loves. We got this one for £5 as it is in the 2 for £15 and we had a £5 off voucher. It's not the sturdiest, but will do for in the house at the moment and getting trashed in the garden in the summer. Also what about a sand and water table? You can get a new one off e-bay for as little as £10.0

We also has this problem, but I bought some think elastic bands and put them between the frame and the wheel. This made some of the wheels stick and they would slide which slowed it down a lot.0 -
We find a travel high chair very helpful, like this: http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+polar-gear-baby-booster-seat-in-baby-booster-highchairs-and-bouncers+b1145?gclid=Cj0KEQiAsueiBRCT8YOM4PDElsYBEiQAaiI4IBhYUQH_Vk7y3P42hVx7Rn_gf6neR_MgNG_I_z6c3k4aAhkD8P8HAQ
My in-laws loved buying DD1's first cruising shoes: http://www.star-child.co.uk/
A car-seat toy?
A little table and chairs set?
We also found an avent steamer/blender to be a fantastic buy with DD1... but we haven't used it at all with DD2 (lack of time), so depends on whether you intend to make your own purees: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-AVENT-SCF870-21-Combined/dp/B003MAJ5OC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415210118&sr=8-1&keywords=avent+steam+blenderMortgage when started: £330,995

On the toy front We bought a ball pool which could also be used as a paddling pool. My lo had hours of fun with this and infact baby number two has one for Xmas from when he/she is 6 months old.
Another brill buy was a little tikes cozy coupe, this is still in use now and my lo gets hours of fun. She used it from a year old.
High chair, I love the ikea one, easy to clean and can be used easily at a table without the tray when they get bigger.0
