That sounds promising about the ramp. Hope they manage to sort something for you :T:T
If memory lane is upsetting for you - have you thought of going to new places and making new memories so you’re not making comparisons.

    It's fine.
I think it is just how I am feeling at the moment.

Ramps, I think you'd struggle to get one funded by the council because it's not for everyday use, I.e. you're not in a wheel chair full time. But worth speaking to them to see if they can help.

The problem with ramps is they generally need to be made to fit your door/steps/threshold so they vary wildly, when we needed to have the scooter in our old house my dad made a set of ramps for us but they needed to be moved to close the door which wasn't ideal but no other way round it.

If you're going to have a hoist then the scooter can stay in the car and the battery is the only bit you need to bring in to charge.

Make sure that the scooter you buy is suitable for a hoist, the hoist bar attaches under the seat so might not be suitable for folding ones...worth checking first.

Speak to motobility and ask what deals are on hoists, i think different cars will have different offers. Our 2nd hoist is to take a full size road scooter so it's a lot beefier and we needed a big car for it all but for a smaller standard boot scooter you'll need the smaller hoist and will have a choice of cars.

Having one fitted by someone else is a no no as it's a lease car you'd be breaking the lease and I don't think it works out any cheaper.

I agree that this is something you need to go into a small amount of debt for, it's going to be a life changer for you.

Back from a weekend away... Couldn’t say it better myself....

I use to keep mine either in the car boot or the garage and as Pooky says, you only need to bring the battery in, and these are very light these days especially the lithium ones.

I have the more standard hoist and I would say that this would be suffice t for wha5 you e been looking at, a good fitter will adjust the attachment to lift the scooter.

In England the equivalent CP charity is Scope, they don’t do grants, however I would reccome d yo7 considering the local church charities which often hold the benevolent funds - as a treasurer of a food bank I bet you know thes, but it’s not easy asking fo4 a personal contribution is it .......

    Love and hugs BM

  • I hope you manage to get a ramp and hoist sorted out Beanie. I know it's a lot to think about and organise, plus a lot of expense. But it could make such an enormous difference to your life.
