Beanie hope you are feeling a tad more bright today.

When you are talking about hoists do you mean , boot hoist or roof rack hoist. My friend has the roof one, it makes so much difference to her life.

Not sure of the cost, but I seem to think she paid a contribution towards it.
    Thanks.
I did not know that you could get roof hoists.
    I am learning more everyday.

My mood is continuing to dip.
Went an impromptu trip down memory lane yesterday.
So sad when I think of what I used to be able to do compared with now.
    Therein madness lies.

  • Sorry to hear things aren't much better Beanie . The roof hoist might only be for wheelchairs now I think about it . It's goes in a roof rack , probably wouldn't work with a scooter. Friend uses the wheelchair for trips out and the scooter she has just for short trips from home.

Went out for tea & what a flipping carry on.
The place we were going to was up a lot of stairs & the lift was broken.
Struggled op the stairs which were wooden and slippery.
Had to come down the fire escape which was not much blooming better.
    Aaarrrggghhhh

Fell out with my mum who flaps around all the time these days. It just drives me nuts. I know it is because she worries but really.
    Therein ends my rant.

Ramps, I think you'd struggle to get one funded by the council because it's not for everyday use, I.e. you're not in a wheel chair full time. But worth speaking to them to see if they can help.

The problem with ramps is they generally need to be made to fit your door/steps/threshold so they vary wildly, when we needed to have the scooter in our old house my dad made a set of ramps for us but they needed to be moved to close the door which wasn't ideal but no other way round it.

If you're going to have a hoist then the scooter can stay in the car and the battery is the only bit you need to bring in to charge.

Make sure that the scooter you buy is suitable for a hoist, the hoist bar attaches under the seat so might not be suitable for folding ones...worth checking first.

Speak to motobility and ask what deals are on hoists, i think different cars will have different offers. Our 2nd hoist is to take a full size road scooter so it's a lot beefier and we needed a big car for it all but for a smaller standard boot scooter you'll need the smaller hoist and will have a choice of cars.

Having one fitted by someone else is a no no as it's a lease car you'd be breaking the lease and I don't think it works out any cheaper.

I agree that this is something you need to go into a small amount of debt for, it's going to be a life changer for you.

Also, consider the types of places you'd need to use the scooter, if you need to negotiate any slight hills, small kerbs, uneven paths then you need a more sturdy scooter than the lighter weight folding ones.

The local Men’s Shed are going to give me some advice on the practicalities of a ramp and how to go about it.
Same old story. It’s not what you know but who you know.
Without the FB I would have not had these contacts.

That sounds promising about the ramp. Hope they manage to sort something for you :T:T
