I don't think wet in the WM for a couple of days would be a problem. They might start to smell a bit but that will wash out when you wash them. If you do it regularly make sure you are cleaning your machine now and then (soda crystals/vinegar).
My experience is I left washed clothes in the machine for a few days (went away for a weekend and forgot they were in there). They didn't smell great when I got back so I rewashed them and they came out fine. Total waste of electricity and laundry liquid but it was too late.Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000

Beanie, I don’t know if this will help but I’ll tell you what I do with the cloth nappies. All the day’s nappies are stored in a bucket in the bathroom (wet bags can also be used) and the following morning I chuck them in the wm with the night nappy for a pre-wash at 60C with a half dose of powder. They are then stored wet in an “airy basket” basically a laundry basket with lots of holes to let air circulate, in the utility room for 3 days, each day’s nappies pre-washed & added. Then I do a long 60C wash on the 4th morning. They don’t smell at all once pre-washed.
You could maybe give the clothes a quick pre-wash then store in an airy basket until your next full wash goes on? Or as SA suggested rinse in a hot shower or hot water & detergent in the sink? 🤔Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. I’m another who has rinsed through and left for a couple of days. Only once it hot weather when I’d left longer than intended did I get a stain that didn’t wash out properly.January spends - £587.584

We are dealing with puppy mess at the moment and plenty of wet stuff. I rinse anything that might stain but otherwise, cloths and towels accumulate until the washing machine is worth running (3 days on average). Just don't click the door shut. They are better with a bit of air to them. All fine and no smell or mildewSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Similarly, I leave rinsed pet stuff, cleaning cloths, whatever else in the machine between washes and it's fine once washed. (It's leaving it in the machine after a wash I have to watch, as sometimes even a couple of hours makes it smell sour and it needs another rinse and spin to remove.)

I agree with the others. I used to wash cloth nappies every 2-3 days. They were fine. If you are concerned about smells you could rinse them in cold water, that will keep them fresh enough until you wash them."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do".
