    Thanks everyone.
As usual you are just a helpful bunch
Also as usual the bulk of the cost will be labour I suppose.

My worry is I have a wet room & if the shower goes I have no other way to keep clean!
It is definatly getting a bit tempremental :(

Lou What type of shower is it, one like this?

Mira Go Electric Shower 8.5kW (toolstation.com)

That gives you an idea of the cost of the unit.

You do need an electrician to fit it, so his labour costs on top of that.
Its a mira something~~ that I know ~~ not good with these things!

Anyone any idea roughly how much it would cost roughly to have a new shower supplies & fitted.
I've got the same issue myself beanie. My trusty shower suddenly gave up . It's over the bath so I do have the bath. However I had the shower installed because both youngest and I struggled with the bath . Shower is years old so doesn't owe me anything but a number of things have stoppped working since the pandemic began and needed replacing so can't run to a new shower at the moment. Hairwashing is a nightmare, used to do it under the shower and youngest has used a shower stool for years.
No idea what the situation is in Scotland but would there be any grant you could apply for to replace yours? Could be worth finding out. glad you've had some family time.

Keep plodding love and best wishes to all here.
    pollyx

    Have great family time .
    Thank you both  xx

Yes, I'd definitely look at getting it sorted before it gives up the ghost. There are always ways to keep clean but it's much easier just getting in the shower. x

I don't think you will be on the slippery slope spending as you are so aware of the perils. We have to know when to spend and when not to. Family time should be enjoyed and spending a bit more is ok and you can (and do) pullback when you need to.

Hope you get the shower situation resolved :)

The things you need to know about your shower before you speak to the plumber is whether it has a separate electricity supply that heats the water as you use it or it runs off your central heating boiler. Also, does it have a pump to pull the water through or is it a gravity mains fed shower. The one @Grumpelstiltskin linked to runs off the mains pressure and the boiler, hence is quite reasonable. These are not complicated to fix. If you need the wall to be replaced to fit another one, I suggest shower board as there is no grout to go mouldy or start leaking and it is much more straightforward to keep clean (and less labour to fit)
