Ooops - I had missed a / from both links s/b http:// I can only assume that the person who replied must have manually corrected it and not mentioned it or it somehow got corrupted by the wordpress editing.
Anyhow you should be able to get both now.
You may well find that although you can't actually download them from the Play store they will update - certainly the first one got replaced by the second on a tablet or phone I had. The second may have updated too from the version on DigitalHam.0 -
Thanks again. I've got the app up and running.0

A little more playing around - not much to post but....
The Fon connection app still works well, and can be installed form google play in the UK - sort of.
For some reason it doesnt show up when accessing it on an android device, however if you access the play store via a P.C it will show up here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oakley.fon click on install, log in to your play account and then select the device you want to install it on and it should install.
The fon UI looks terrible on a P.C, however on a mobile device it looks much better, the overview page is still showing as Regsiter Now.
As expected the signal strength is no way near as good, I was using my old fonera+ coupled up to a directional antenna pointing at a building at least 600 metres away where i could then receive WIFI from the fonera, the old fonera+ is no longer functioning as a wifi access point or as a fon spot (I may try the pesky re-set button ) the new fonera with its fixed antenna doesnt reach that far.
However the fonera can be used as wifi repeater, this can be set up under the internet settings option, the default is internet connection Cable other option being wifi then choose a host AP, then password etc, something ive yet to explore.
Also the wall outlet is of a different voltage the fonera+ being 7.5 volt (1amp) and the new fonera being 5 volt 1 amp, which means it could be powered by usb, if the power requirements ( as in amps) are not too high.0 -
I suppose you could always open it up and fit a screw aerial connector0

already opened it up - and fitting such a connector would be incredibly easy, unlike the fonera+ where the cable is directly soldered onto the main board the cable that goes to the antenna on the new fonera is attached using a standard conector.
It looks like it could be a U.FL socket, so a Reverse SMA to U.FL lead should do the trick. some examples are listed here https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ufl+to+rp-sma&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb&gfe_rd=cr&ei=GqFvVJ_hEMiq8wft_YK4DA#q=ufl+to+rp-sma&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=sb&tbm=shop
Also it should be fairly straight forward to mount the new fonera main board inside an alternative enclosure/box0 -

Like the old Fonera+ box, for example.0 -
Ive just been doing a little more digging around...
with the old la fonera, if i logged into my own fon spot I would receive a separate IP address, listed as fon internet ( or something like that )
However if i repeat the same thing, it would appear that anyone signing into my fonera via fon is given my IP address
Also the fon router set up page is still showing as register now0 -

I got mine yesterday and it was a pretty straightforward set up. I registered it with my existing ID and it seems to be showing up on the map. I seem to remember that the Fonera+ had the facility to restrict Fon bandwidth from the control panel which this doesn't have... or at least I can't find it.
Incidentally, following the link on the Fonera registration site, I also managed to download the Fon app onto my iPad which may come in useful.0 -
if you go to the main fon website, and log in there you can adjust the speed settings via personalise your fon spot, click on the new fonera and then settings0

There are two consolations.
First is that you are allocated a local IP on a seperate subnet so it doesn't expose your home network.
Second is that the range of the WiFi on the thing is so poor you are unlikely to get many visitors. The range on mine won't be extended as I'd planned.Richard_T_ wrote: »Also the fon router set up page is still showing as register now0
