    PS I find it odd that folk put jam on toast as well I always use marmalade.To me jam is what I had either as a dollop in the middle of a milk pudding or with bread and butter.I always had marmalade on my breakfast toast.Probably because that's what my late Mum dished us kids up with, we also had toamtoes sprinkled with sugar as a treat if there were a glut of them from our garden ( not very often though as we grew up with rationing and sugar was hoarded like gold dust :):):)
    BIB ... I don't care for toast and jam either, it has to be marmalade, and no marmalade on bread please, only jam, if that makes any sense :o

    Back on topic, your porridge sounds good to me :)

    How can you tell if oats are steel cut?

  • I'm not really into porridge either unless it's covered in golden syrup and milk so I like to use the recipe from A Girl Called Jack for overnight oats. Plus it's a good way to use up any natural yoghurt you may have left over. I have raspberries in the freezer from my mum's canes this summer and I don't always put the seeds on top.

    Ingredients, makes two. They look small but they are incredibly filling!

    50g porridge oats
    200g natural yoghurt
    50g frozen mixed berries (defrost by rinsing in cold water)
    Approx 20 pumpkin seeds (level tsp)
    Approx 20 dried cranberries and sultanas (level tbsp)

    Combine the oats, berries and yoghurt in a bowl with a splash of water to loosen if it’s a little thick. Spoon into two ramekin dishes or portable pots (I find those pots that value soft cheese come in, with the snap on lid, are a great size). Top with the dried fruit and pumpkin seeds.

    They can be eaten immediately, or chilled in the fridge and eaten within two days.

    Ingredient costs Sainsburys, basics range where available, correct at time of printing:
    50g oats, 6p (1kg/£1.19). 200g yoghurt, 22p (500g/55p). 100g frozen berries, 32p (400g/£1.29). 20 pumpkin seeds, 1p (100g/85p). 20 cranberries and sultanas, 12p (£1.65/250g).

    Now saving for a house deposit!

    Pour boiling water on the oats and steep for about 10 mins. It will go really stodgy. Add more water and nuke/boil in sauce pan. When cooked I add skimmed milk powder, raisins, banana and Lidls flax seed cereal topping. Sometimes brown sugar or honey.

    I have porridge with sliced banana and a splash of soya or oat milk. I have ordered some stevia as it's meant to be a healthy version of sugar so I will try a bit of that on my porridge.
    oat groats popped in a thermos with boiling water overnight, served just as they are or with either banana or soy sauce!

    Oh, just remembered, Bugslet from this site recommended a teaspoon of tahini and I had that recently and it was Fantastic.



    I added a tiny bit of honey to the end of the bowl and that was nice for the sweet toothed, I also think it would be nice with a squeeze of lime juice, with or without honey...but with the tahini.

    Add coconut milk to the oats and nuke in the microwave for 3 minutes.
    Then add scoop of chocolate soy powder, a couple of teaspoons of psyllium husk, 6 macadamia nuts, some toasted flaked almonds and occasionally cinnamon.


    Not eaten for taste, but to get me through the morning.
