porridge - how do you eat yours?

Hello everyone,
I am trying to eat more porridge, because it is supposed to be cheap, nutritious and healthy. But .... I only really like it if I load it with sugar or jam, or so much salt my blood pressure probably jumps a couple of points just sniffing it! How does everyone else eat theirs? any tips for how to make it tasty without turning into the sugar/calorie equivalent of a starbucks muffin would be very welcome

I mash a banana and put it into a bowl. Then I make my porridge with almond milk (gives it a lovely nutty taste).
Then I just put the porridge on top of the mashed banana and stir together. I then add a small tsp of Peanut (or almond) butter.
The banana gives it a great sweetness without any added sugar.0 -
I am a sugar diva too, just a sprinkling with some milk. OH, a Scot, goes down the salt route.0

I find I can eat it without sugar if I steep it overnight before cooking as it is more creamy
Also oats are nice stirred into yoghurt and left overnight for a change from porridge.0 -
I was just going to say "with a spoon"!, LOL
I soak mine in water for about 10-15 minutes then microwave for 2 minutes, stir through a vanilla yoghurt and nuke for another 15 seconds.
I then chop a banana on top as well.

I agree with soaking the oats over night. I find it makes it alot more creamier.0

Water, a dessert spoon of low calorie instant hot chocolate and some fruit (usually frozen mixed berries, sometimes raspberries or cherries) is low calorie, low sugar and gets 1 of your 5 a day in
The instant hot chocolate thickens it too to make it extra creamy

Cinnamon & a pinch of cloves, a few tb spoons of pureed pumpkin & manuka honey, 1/2 a banana, a handful of sultanas, some frozen cherries, frozen mango...whatever we fancy when we get up as all of those things are usually available. We always soak our oats overnight too.0

I make mine with half water and half skimmed milk (or almond milk), and leave it to soak overnight (I like the really jumbo oats so it makes them a bit less chewy). In the morning I cook it, then normally eat it with some cashew or almond butter and some fruit - banana or blueberries. In winter when fresh berries are too dear I make a compote with some frozen fruits and a little bit of agave, or I'll make some stewed apple.
Occasionally I'll make 'carrot cake' porridge - oats, milk, some grated carrot, spices, sultanas and nuts, soaked overnight and then cooked. That's really nice with some Greek yogurt on the top. I also like 'gingerbread' porridge - oats, milk, tiny bit of treacle, spices, some chopped apple and some sultanas.0 -
I make mine with milk, then stir in a teaspoon of honey and some cinnamon, yummy!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs
