For what it's worth I can see why you did what you did and I probably would've done the same, but the difference is I would be calling myself an idiot afterwards rather than trying to get someone else to pay :p

Well this is true, but he's informing his insurance tomorrow and asking for legal advice. For the next five years he will have to tell the insurance companies about the fault claim all for a small knock on a six year old motor.
  • I couldn't see any references to the road or hump on tripadvisor.

If I'd gone fast over it, I'd be kicking myself (literally) and it'd be my fault, but I did what 2 other cars did in front of me and what I saw countless other cars do in the following days (use the extra space), but suffered damage. I've lowered cars previously and if I damaged those due to the lowered ride height, it would be my own fault.

Staying out of the White lines area is all well and good, but 2 cars can't pass that way and we're not talking about a 50 yard stretch of road, it's more like 400 yards. Reversing to allow oncoming cars that just turned into the road to come past isn't viable or realistic as you'd never get out of the place lol

But plenty of room for two cars to pass between the bumps?

Did I say I was making a claim? Nope, I didn't. I said I was planning to call with the view to accessing the free legal advice my policy offers me with regards to any motoring related enquiries. It may be 6 years old, but it's in good condition (ok not so much now before you mention it....) and I like(d) it that way.

    I sympathise, but reckon you'll !!!!!! out.
Modern cars are getting wider and lower, and roads/spaces/garages etc etc aren't changing to accommodate.
White line or not, it's been (originally?) designed for 2 way traffic with a line added on. Pavements don't typically have speed humps.

There's only 1 bump. The road is the same width all along. There's only room for 2 cars to pass each other if the full width of the road is used, meaning going over the White line.

Sympathy appreciated  and yes I reckon you're right.
Exactly my thoughts! Pavements don't have humps!

So you wouldn't need to reverse 400 metres. At any other point n the road two cars could pass had you reversed 10 feet or waited it wouldn't have happened
