    Yep, I'd edited that one - the image was clearer than the google thumbnail...

    The solid white lines are also on the wrong side of the kerb. ;)

    Nope, they are called people that pay attention and understand the various road markings.
    I said the white line indicates the edge of the carriageway. There's nothing wrong in crossing it but leaving the carriageway on the speed bump has resulted in damage. Had he done it at any other point or showed a bit of restraint it wouldn't have hampered. So his fault.

    Would you - or the OP - suggest that those solid white lines were somehow confusing, meaning that crossing then was fair game? Would you suggest that any consequence befalling the unwary driver as a result was anything other than the driver's own fault?

    well done you gave examples of road markings on a public highway not a private road.
    Your last picture is also clearly defined as being pathway hence the kerbstones
    Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

    Can you tell us how a private road should be marked and what legislation covers it?
