    It's not very clear actually:

Any? Even if it, say, is damaged from inside by some other failed component?

    Based upon the OP.
Said that it was not covered because it was screen damage.

Key here is cost of an engineers report on the problem compared to cost of a used S2 or cost of independent repair .

All repair services are notorious for trying to pull a fast one and fob you off. Not everything they say is necessarily true/correct.

Yes, but if they fob you off because of the alleged screen damage, and then you can prove that it wasn't a user-inflicted damage, you can claim the cost of the report from Tesco.
I don't know how difficult it is to get the report, but if it's not very hard, I'd do this on principle.

I accept that it is possible that the overheating was caused by a faulty screen. Would it be reasonable of them to charge for fixing this.
I would say it's the other way round, it's probable the overheating caused the damage to the screen.
It's not just about the money

I've just watched last night's (30 Oct) Watchdog on iPlayer and they trailered a feature on overheating Samsungs on next week's programme. It may be worth you watching.

My S2 went through two batteries. I got OEMs from Amazon both times for < £5. I know people above disagreed but this is a classic S2 battery issue symptom. If it were me I would actually source a decent priced OEM battery first and change that. It seems to much of a coincidence that the power IC is faulty at the same time as a common S2 issue.

This was referring to the Galaxy S4 which can, apparently, overheat. If your's does overheat firstly speak to your network or Samsung who will replace it as it is a known issue. Also, ask if they'll replace the charger too - better to be safe than sorry!

Mind you, I've only spoken to 3 people about this issue (2 of them straight after Watchdog finished) so don't think too many S4's are affected.

It's not a battery issue. It's the power regulator chip. It no longer functions with the original battery, a replacement battery or a USB power supply plugged in.

I've decided to send the phone to a Samsung approved repair centre. No one at Tesco mobile seemed to be able to tell me what would happen if Samsung said it was power IC and Tesco mobile said it was screen damage.

My understanding is that this should be covered by the sale of goods act (SOGA) anyway.
    Happy chappy
