  • NSD number 12. Went for a walk at lunchtime and just got back from a walk around the block with DH. Was freezing indoors before we left, but thanks to the exercise I'm now rather warm. So no heating this evening and straight into bed for me :)

Both SIL's coming round tomorrow evening. DH working from home so has the task of hoovering and mopping entire house, hee hee. I shall bake a yoghurt cake when I return from work, and we have pizzas in the freezer, should they be needed. Must remember to put some wine in fridge too... we're still using up bottles left over from our wedding in 2012!!

    Friday tomorrow guys :T

  • fmess- not badly, thank you, just VERY long! Only two more weeks of the semester after this one though, and only one more semester till I'm qualified :D Very excited to read the December challenge.

  • Good morning, TGIF, I agree ;)

Not sure but expect today to be an SFD. Tomorrow won't be as I got a lunch with the girls but my budget is £12 (main, maybe one drink). After that we'll drive to FIL's. Will take a bit of pork from the freezer and make a roast. Will see if he got any veg in or if we need to pop into the big fridge as he calls it (@sda behind the house :) ).

Probably won't get a chance to check in again till Sun evening so have a nice weekend all!
finally tea total but in still in (more) debt (Oct 25 CC £1800, loan £6453, mortgage £59,924/158,000)

Hi folks sorry didn't check in yesterday.

Took a dress yesterday for refund had bought a cheaper one from Peacocks instead last week for the dreaded xmas do.

Paid lots off my credit cards however made a mistake with my spreadsheet and forgot about a direct debit so next few weeks are going to be tough ones. May need cheering up turtles as will be grounded.

Fmess think we are on the same wave length I am determined to get to 6k by end of the year. Happy to have reached 53% today. With my regular payments should reach 54% then plus another forty pounds. Keep going Fmess doing brilliantly

Lost a SFD on milk yesterday and a cake board - love Poundland.

    Today SFD no choice.

Sorry computer is playing up, agree TGIF going to flee before it crashes. Enjoy the weekend turtles.

Another NSD (daily trip downstairs is as far as I am prepared to go atm). Very rainy and cold today - not put the central heating on and don't have the quilt on my half of the bed as it's too much effort to get from under it when i need to move. Warm enough but not super toasty.

Had my own personal fireworks display last night. Had asked DS3 about the noise earlier and he said it was the fair - didn't click till later that it wasn't the regular fairground down the road but the mini fair on the Town Hall Square (diagonally across the car park at the back) as it was the switching on of the Christmas lights - all 3 strands of them (they were bought about 14 years ago and that's all that's left). Little firework display afterwards which I watched from the comfort of my own bed as the skylight is directly above the bed (and fireworks are set off from aforementioned car park - when I said this house was in the town centre I wasn't joking).

Was worried that my chest felt a bit tight - DS3 seems to have managed to pass on one of the many bugs he's harbouring, but have settled for adding one of my hayfever pills (which the doctor and hospital pharmacy added onto my prescription list) and relaxing into the cough instead of fighting against it.

Rather tired today, so not doing much although I did manage about 15 minutes on my crutches in one go. Sorry to report food waste but the 2 week old broccoli had to go out. Couldn't get DS3 to deal with it when I came back from hospital so opened the back door, grasped it firmly with the crutches and lobbed it outside.

Cheered myself up by playing the Pogues before bedtime last night - might be every night from now on.

DS3 has a friend staying - he was threatening to de-camp to gf's (she had a week's paid holiday that had to be used before December) and having his friend round keeps him here (and friend is a lot more useful than DS3).

Feel as though I am being a bit of an ostritch over finance but doing a quick check through I have done all the preparation I could, my Christmas money is in the bank and should cover all SOs and min pays until sometime in January and should have enough food for a similar time (not yet counted how much food I have). Cannot work, just need to follow surgical recovery procedures and see how it goes. Can't waste energy fretting about things I can do nothing about.

Have only had pain-killers this morning, no more so far but will take later if I need them, but twice a day is still a reduction on the hospital routine and we are only one week on from surgery. Mum came to visit and was amazed by how I can get around (oh, might have done two trips downstairs today).

Today I am grateful for visitors (especially as they took away more than they brought), fireworks and the Pogues.

Well done on reducing the pain killers mothernerd, glad you are on the mend

sazzlebegood - why did you order 26kg of flour? I'm intrigued.

soa - what are you studying towards?

Thanks calling. Just looked at your signature, you are doing fantastically, looks like you've halved your debt in less than a year? Amazing work!

Today was a spend day as needed to post two presents and cards. Made sure I bought flat presents so they only cost me the cost of a large letter.

I did manage to take LTW and eat it :)

Unfortunately OH borrowed the car today and used the petrol I had put in to last me the weekend. Had to top up on petrol again :(

  • Good morning turtles - happy weekend!

mothernerd - you need the gadget out of Wallace and Gromit that makes tea and delivers breakfast :D Glad to hear you're doing well, hope the DSs are looking after you!

fmess - I'm studying a PGDip in human resource management, which will (hopefully!) give me membership of the CIPD. I did originally train as a teacher, so for a while I had a masters in education and my CIPD going, but thankfully now I'm down to just the one - unfortunately, it's twice weekly 3 hour seminars so by this end of term I've lost the will to live :D

sazzlebgood - I agree, we need to know what these 26 kilos of flour are for.... very glad you manage to rescue them though.

Had a no good, very bad day yesterday and need to join the naughty step. Let's just say it involved domino's and leave it at that - can't remember the last time I ordered a takeaway and it will NOT become a habit. It is no good for my budget, my diet or my health. (but I have to say, it did taste fantastic!)

    £77.54/ £150 groceries till 15th December
    £40.85/£60 petrol till 15th December
    £49.80/ £36.70 spending money till 15th December
    NSDs 8/20 (till 30th November)
12/20 exercise sessions (lunchtime walks, till 30th November)

NSDs today and tomorrow - have an essay due in on monday, so needs to be a very quiet/ productive/ non spendy/ healthy weekend. <climbs back on board>

Final weekly challenge will be up shortly.

  • Ahoy sailors! Welcome to our final mini challenge of November. We are approaching the shore (I personally like to imagine this as Tortuga, your mileage may vary) and cruising into December and our next adventure.

This week's challenge is aimed at finishing the month in true debt free wannabe style! So, in order to ensure that we cruise into December ready for all the spending challenges the festive season can throw at us, this week your mission is to do the following:

    - make sure every £ you have remaining this month has a job. This does NOT mean spending it, some jobs are to sit and wait in case there's an emergency, or to sit until you find the perfect christmas present for great aunt ida. But a clear plan for how much money you have left, as I know most people are coming up to payday - can you squeeze a little extra to put towards your debt/ savings?

    - have a plan for spending your remaining money as wisely as possible. When are you going to have NSDs? How many more can you pack in before the end of the month?

    - this week, do something nice for yourself and something nice for someone else. For example, treat yourself to a night with no chores and a DVD or book, and buy the big issue or put some tins into a food bank.

    - (for truly hard core turtles) I challenge you to a Kat style week. Bare minimum spending, daily exercise of some variety and no frills. It's 7 days... can you do it?

:j Enjoy the last week of our voyage.... I'm really looking forward to the December challenge. :j
