As an aside, do people who have corner sofas think that they are a good design in practice? I can't really see how they can seat any more people than conventional ones.

I wasn't thinking about extra seating, I had in mind more for stretching out and lounging.

I've noticed with the Ikea ones I'm fancying that the bit for stretching out is actually made from the footstool. So I think I'll get a footstool (as I have with my current ones) and then I can push it out of the way/use as an extra separate seat when needed.

I'll be interested to hear what/why people who've got them think.:)

I hate leather chairs and sofas. Too cold, too slippery, too sticky for me.

We're looking to change our still perfectly servicable red fabric sofas after 14 years (from Argos no less) which have had our dog, our children (from birth to now age 10/8), kids friends and their mushy breadsticks, youth groups for 2 years and finally us and our marital love on them. ;-)

Wouldn't go for cord though...I find it too bumpy myself. We're looking at Ikea Ektorp 3 seater + 2 seater with a chaise longue. Plus a spare set of covers as we like the idea of a new suite feeling whenever we change the covers.

The pair of sofas we have are 20+ years old, were hand made and expensive and on second set of loose covers. I could have new covers and would need new seat cushions as the existing (feather) ones are too flat now. So I've decided Id like a change but what??

Why don't you get a quote for reupholstering your existing ones. They should be able to replace the feathers with foam. I regularly visit an upholsterer customer of mine and they perform miracles with some of the stuff that comes to them. If you've got decent frames, the rest of it can be replaced.

Thanks for that but as others have said the cost of reupholstery, new seat cushions or even having new covers made isn't cost effective certainly not where I live. As I've had mine for 25 years on the 'cost per wear' I've had my moneysworth. The thing about Ikea is that although probably the frames aren't the quality of mine you can buy replacement covers relatively cheaply.

I won't join in the leather debate.
I have a corner unit, I love it my living room is a strange shape and its great for a streamlined look and makes a great use of the floor space. I have also seen them used to a great effect in a living/dining room used to separate the space.

I love corner sofas because they're much comfier to lie on! Even one of the sofas with the extra foot rest bits would be nicer than a normal one.

I'm another one that doesn't like leather, I don't like the feel of it. Fabric is much softer! The easy cleaning aspect doesn't sell leather to me at all, I'd rather have a fabric sofa and washable throws.

I wouldn't have a cord one because I don't like the fabric, but that's just personal choice. I'm sure it'll be fine if you like them!
  • I'm glad I am not the only one that dislikes leather.....I was starting to think I was a bit weird!!!

I want a corner sofa as it will have slightly more seating then what I have now. I will also be using it as a shield for a huge floor to ceiling window. Also, like some people have said its the lounging aspect. Both me and dd tend to lay rather then sit so hoping it will be more comfortable.

I had safe guarding on the fabric on the sofas I have now but it didn't do a thing....I wonder if they even put it on or just charged me for it???? :rotfl:
