Hi all...
Firstly if this is in the wrong place please move, I just thought I'd get better/more replies here.
I need a new sofa and would like a corner sofa. All the ones I like and that are within budget are the cord style sofas. How well do they wear? I have 3 young slightly messy and clumsy children. I get the impression when food gets on to it, it easily in grains quite easily into the fabric. Is cord easy to clean?
Before anyone suggests leather that is a no no for me. I'm just not keen on it.
Reviews/opinions good or bad much appreciated!
Thanks in advance for any help.x

You may not be keen on it but it will last three times as long with three small children. After working in the industry for a number of years and owning it my self for the last 14 (same sofa, looking as good as the day I bought it) I would recommend leather over fabric till the cows come home- you'd be mad not to in your circumstance- unless you have the budget to replace the furniture you buy every 3-4 years.0

Cord will wear very quickly as it has a partly raised pile. That will flatten and probably go shiny, so will look 'old' very quickly. I would second leather - I've had many different types of material sofas over the years, with kids and dogs and cats, and my leather suite which is now over 10 years old still comes up like new when I clean it. The other sofas just wore out!0

I have an ikea corner sofa and love it - extremely well made (they even wax seal knots that you can't see) and you can change the covers relatively cheaply, plus extend the sofa further. I think pretty cheap for what it is - I share mine with my dog.0

Cord will wear so easily. Especially in places where you say rest your arms/head/bum. It'll start to look shabbier a lot quickly than leather would. Also, not as easy to clean either.
We had our previous leather suite for years, it was my bosses before that (but was in excellent condition) and the only thing wrong with it when we changed it was that the cat had used it has a scratching pole! :mad:0 -
Definitely leather if you have children! Ours is 10 years old and still looks excellent despite not being particularly well cared for (just wipe it with soapy water) and 4 years of being used as a trampoline and having all sorts of food, drink and playdoh smeared on it by our daughter.0

Why are people suggesting leather when the OP made it patently clear that she doesn't want it?! This kind of attitude really grates on me. You tell someone clearly that you don't want something, but they just don't listen, and peddle what you don't want anyway! (Or they DO listen but peddle what you don't want anyway.)
Anyway, to the OP: A cord suite is a bad idea, because we had a suite that had a cord 'trim,' and where we sat, (on the edge of the cushion, where our legs went over,) it did start to flatten and fray after several months. It didn't look awful, as it was only probably 5% of the entire suite, but it was a bit annoying. If you had the whole suite like this though, I would imagine it would look a mess quite quickly.
I would just get a good quality, hard-wearing dralon one. Personally I am not a fan of leather suites either, as they make you sweat in summer, they're cold in winter, and they get ruined easily if you have pets. My sister had one about ten years ago and regretted it quite quickly, for the reasons I've outlined. She said she would never have one again. You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Leather all the way. I have two children, two cats and a dog. We had a leather sofa then very similar situation went to fabric. Two years and it looked horrible. Small stains that would not come out no matter how hard I tried.
( animals not allowed on sofa ) but still it looked like it had been to hell and back. This time I went straight back to leather. I got two beautiful vintage chesterfield style sofa's from ebay.
They are amazing and comfy with a load of cushions which again is fab because if I want to spruce the room room just a single cushion change or accent colour can make a massive difference.
Easy to keep clean. Leather all way or imitation there are just leather look a likes that and even better than the real thing. OP why do you not want a leather is it the style ?Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
She. does. not. want. leather.
Earth to MSE posters:
She. does. not. want. LEATHER.You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I'g get imitation leather because no animals have sufferred.
I wouldnt get cord unless it was like 50 quid and I was just having it as a stopgap. It will be ruined in no time with little kids.
If you dont want this I'd ask which was a very hardwearing dralon, but even then its dicey because little kids are always dropping things on settees.0 -

No need to shout. We heard you.
If a poster says they want to do a stupid thing and do not want to do a sensible alternative it is, as far as I can see, perfectly acceptable to point out that they might like to consider the sensible thing a bit more.
If the question had been 'Should I jump in front of a bus or a train, those are the only options I will consider' would you be as quick to shout down those saying 'think about not jumping'?0
