he's emailing me now saying EDF have 'misinformed' me and that debt collection will be involved now (from EDF).

I could cry, i don't know what to do - i've never had anything happen like this??? Ringing EDF again.

Debt collection would not be involved his EDF have only just realised they've made a mistake (which I doubt they actually have) - they would start off by sending you a revised bill to pay. Stop playing his game - STOP READING AND REPLYING TO HIS EMAILS!

DO NOTHING. If EDF contact you, then deal with it. Any further emails from your ex LL should be ignored and not replied to, but saved in case you need to involve the police in a harassment case.

yeah not speaking to him anymore - feels like he is trying to scare me, surely EDF would just send a bill anyway before getting debt collection involved. On the phone to EDF now, so stressful having to explain everything as well as it's such a long story A+ for EDF's staff for listening to my long rambles about it and being really helpful

Don't even read his emails - he may be using Read Notify so that he actually knows when/where you read any email he sends you.

Any decent email client allows you to turn off 'Read Receipts' in the settings. I use Windows Live Mail and have Read Receipts turned off ... nobody knows if I've even received or read their email to me.

after hearing nothing for a bit - i get an email where he wants my address to post bills to this morning

EDF sent me paper bills and email saying i don't owe, he told me to send them once he had sent his copies through - he never did (few weeks ago now) silly me assumed this was over and done with.

Rang EDF today - they insist nothing owed on my account. Old landlord sends me two EDF account numbers (one gas, one elec) which the lady on the phone is investigating the dates on for me. Basically if the dates are after my move-out then I'm not liable for that one either.

Such a headache, really could do without this in the run up to christmas :(
Tell him that your PRIVATE contract with EDF is nothing to do with him, to stop contacting you and any more contact will be deemed harassment and reported to the police.

Then carry on with your life, energy bills are nothing to do with your old LL

Read Notify can be defeated - remote images need to be disabled to achieve this. Only if disabling 'Read Receipts' disables remote images will Read Notify be rendered useless.

just got ANOTHER 2 emails (i'm not replying)

One less rude that the debt collectors one - saying he's spoke to someone else 'more informed' at EDF and admitting he is liable for standing charges (well OBVIOUSLY) and that they are discussing some sort of split for other charges that i will be liable for

    So i did nothing

Just had another, saying he has paid the accounts off in full (saying that's not him admitting liability, urm ok) and that he wants to prevent extra charges from the imaginary debt collectors (thanks) He imagines there will be nothing for electric but £50 owed by me for the gas and gave me his address to send the money to, apparently he is leaving it to my conscience as to whether I send it him (how about no).

Hopefully that's the bleeding last of it now. This blokes not poor so it's a bit sad to be trying bleed me dry -i've made it clear the whole time I'd only pay EDF and not him, so tough!

Tell him the payment involves a stadard £75 admin processing fee, as soon as you receive this, you will send him the £50 he has requested :)

but on a serious note, dont do anything

    OR

Reply saying ' I accept no liability, and consider this matter closed. Please do not contact me again regarding this. '
