Landlord/new tenants say i owe, EDF says no?

Such a headache, really could do without this in the run up to christmas
It only has to be if you continue pandering to your ex-landlord to sort out what is clearly a problem between his new tenant and EDF.
Your response to your ex landlord simply needs to state that neither he nor his new tenant were your energy supplier for the duration you lived in the flat, EDF were, and that you have written confirmation from them that your account was fully paid up to the date you moved out.
Any further issues he has he should raise with his tenant or EDF, and that any further correspondence regarding the issue from him rather than EDF or a court will be ignored and, if they continue, passed on to the police with a harassment complaint against him.0 -
Do not give the LL your new address.
Your liability to edf ceased the day you left the flat. If edf are happy that you owe them nothing then that's the end of the matter.0 -

defo not passing my address to him, he's just sent me another email saying that it's because my final reading was an estimate then stuff after that must be attributable to me. ( i actually looked at my estimated usage, and it was basically the same as last year - so it's fine!) I just told him to call EDF about the amount - it's nothing to do with me until they contact me themselves. His tone was not nice.0 -
If there was no meter reading when the tenancy ending and EDf estimated the bill, then it is not possible to say whether you owe or not.
On the other hand, when the new tenant moved in he should also have got a meter reading.
If there are no meter readings the only thing to do is to fairly estimate your use.
Assuming that this is what EDF did (does your final bill match your usual bills) then I don't see how anyone could come after you.0 -

There's really no reason to keep communicating with him now, it's between you and EDF. His problems with his tenants are not your concern and if he's started to be hostile towards you I'd just cut him off.0 -

yeah it's pretty much the same as last years bill for the same time period. EDF say their estimates are always pretty spot on (even if it wasn't, it wouldn't be £100-odd out, esp considering that the same time last year 2 people were in the property, not just me)
LL wont tell me when the new tenant moved in. They gave proper readings mid October (but this was after the disputes started) so i presume they moved in before that. Apparently some estate agent gave estimated readings end of August (according to EDF) - surely an estate agent should give proper readings!0 -

DO NOTHING. If EDF contact you, then deal with it. Any further emails from your ex LL should be ignored and not replied to, but saved in case you need to involve the police in a harassment case.... I would guess he is bluffing to scare you in to giving him the money.
Worth ringing EDF to put your mind at ease, but try not to let it stress you.

Tell edf this man is harassing you and under no circumstances allow anyone that isn't you to put information on your account - they can do this, you can set a password up with them.
Inform the LL that he isn't a party to the contract you had with the energy supplier, and if he continues to harrass you you'll inform the police.0
