The neighbours house is in a state - rusty cars, rotting boats, caravan covered in moss, in driveway, overgrown vegetation everywhere and not had anything done outside for 30 years.

Just as well we don't all want - or not want - the same things!
I live next to a railway line which I'm sure would put many people off, but I don't mind it. Admittedly it isn't busy - and we occasionally see the steam trains trundling past..
I also like the smell of wet dog!
And I like rooms off rooms - but not off bedrooms.
My deal breakers are:
Estates where the roads are a permanent childrens' playground. Not a fan of estates generally.
Bathrooms without windows.
No private or allocated parking.
Evidence or suggestions of water damage on the ceiling in flats with other flats above.
Speed bumps that there is no way of avoiding to get to your home.0 -
My deal breakers would be:-
House on a rat run
On a main road
No off road parking
Miles from decent bus service
Poor broadband speed
Near to a school/kids playground
Having a public footpath run alongside.

Fabulously expensive high tech kitchens with enormous island. I know, everyone loves that but not me I'm a country sort of gal.
Seriously this did stop us from going for a nice cottage it just seemed too expensive and wasteful to rip out and we couldn't bear to live with it !

Yes.. Not as a deal breaker, but it would be a negative, as it shows there's nowhere suitable to hang anything, and usually only room on the oven for a tea towel. Of course we all have different standards and for some people it might be acceptable not to wash your hands before preparing food, or to dry them on your clothes..I just don't know

A house MUST have off road parking, plus somewhere for visitors to park.
No shared driveways.
A street where it looks like most neighbours look after their houses.
A garage is also a must.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

I can't believe some of these! An oven is replaceable, as if it would put you off! Don't know what's wrong with a towel over it either. Mine are the big things you can't change. North facing garden, tiny kitchen with no scope to extend, stairs into the living room and front door straight into the living room. Also houses with no garage as we need one for a bike.
I preferred being showed round by vendors. We were showed round by the agent in the house we've bought, but I would have liked to ask the vendors questions that the agent just wouldn't know the answer to!0 -
If it has just been done up to sell, because it will have been done on the cheap and it won't be the same tastes as mine.
I feel guilty ripping out kitchens, bathrooms, tiling, carpets etc that are only a few weeks old but I have done it several times on my own home and BTLs .
I will only look at houses that are a tip, because you can see the real condition of the house. A fresh coat of paint can hide such a lot!!
It must be easily/cheaply made energy efficient, so it has to fall into the right criteria of what ever the government are throwing money at at the time as this covers most of the costs of refurbishments especially in solid walled homes.
Ideally I want a South facing garden, and a large south facing roof to put solar panels on.
Being off or on grid doesn't bother me.
Dodgy multiple extensions would put me off.

Most of you wouldn't like my house.
It has:
No parking
A room in the loft
A north-facing back garden (but long enough to get some sun)
A downstairs bathroom with only a shower (although there is room for a bath)
Kitchen only accessible via dining room
Dining room has French windows going into extension
However it also has
A modern galley kitchen
A large utility room (to make up for galley kitchen)
Three double bedrooms
Private access to the rear.
A woodburner
Summerhouse in garden
My own pet hates are
ARTEX
On an estate (unless on the very edge)
Open plan, but this is not necessarily a deal-breaker
Ensuites at the expense of storage or usable bedroom space
Middle of nowhere
Not near bus routes or facilities(AKA HRH_MUngo)
