What are your biggest property turn offs when viewing a house?

            Mine are:
. total modernisation required
. no allocated parking or driveway
. Seller having washing out inside or outside. The viewing was planned a few days before - do washing after the viewings
. Near schools - a friend lives in a property in a cul de sac opposite a school and inconsiderate parents block her driveway. One even parks on it!
. Garage and loft converted into rooms - need somewhere to hide Christmas tree, suitcases etc when not in use!
. rooms' only window looks out onto extension.
. bedrooms that are too small to put wardrobes.
. kitchens that are too small so having to put fridge freezer in dining room.
. having to drive everywhere to go shops.
and my winner of the biggest property feature turn off is
STORAGE HEATERS!!
You cannot control the time of the heat being churned out and come home to a bloody freezing property and they consume so much leccy. The winter quarter of me and my ex's leccy bill in 2004 was £432. I dread to think how much that would be in today's prices. That was for a 2 bed 2 storey maisonette. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. It's not hugely accurate, but Rightmove does have a 'check broadband speeds in this area' button. It's correct for my house.0 -
Cigarette smell as it's so hard to get rid of.
Large trees/conifers/hedges in neighbour's gardens as they're out of my control.
Garden direction, but that wouldn't be on a viewing as I check the direction on Google Maps before booking a viewing so I don't waste people's time.0 -

It can't account for internal wiring. We moved in Feb and should be getting 8Mbps on normal (non-fibre) broadband but only get 1Mbps due to old internal phone extension points. We've now given up and ordered Virgin cable.

            Any shared access
Any noise audible from next door once inside
The owner being there but not being able to answer basic questions
Cross of St George flags on display nearby
No off road parking
Bathroom without a window
'Master' bedroom measuring less than 10 feet either way
Dirty, greasy single oven (easy fix but still a turn off, and quite common too)
Oven handle used as a towel rail (admittedly v common)
Sash windows (personal dislike)
Poorly laid out developments, ie bedroom is against next door's lounge
Ensuites put in when there's little storage space
Breakfast bars
Unusual decoration/kitchen or bathroom units
Ponds
Kitchen with saucepans hanging up or stored on top of cupboards0 -
            Vendors being home? Seriously?
That's a bit of a worry considering we have done most of the viewings ourselves and the EA has turned up for approx 1/3 of them. I didn't realise that was such a problem for viewers.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

My (some recently discovered) turnoffs are
Listed status
Tricky access
Tricky parking
Overproximity to major roads
Insufficient rubbish bin storage
Dubious smells - starting with cigarette smoke...
Low water pressure
Nearby pylons
My future may include a small shell of an disused haystore, but I'd rather have elbow room, a free run at rewiring & updating the plumbing & a bus top in line of sight than carry on in the Listed family home with the chicks flown.0 -
