Yes, cut a lemon in half and put it in the cutlery holder.

I've tried this and it won't kill the foul dishwasher stench! Our washer is 9 months old, we use fairy dishwasher tabs (special offer bulk buy!!!) and regularly do clean cycles with vinegar & bicarb and clean out the filters. But it really, really stinks of rotting food, it's foul, and I've cleaned it till my fingers are sore! I'm going to end up using a bag of lemons at this rate ;)

Have you tried running it with a scoop of biological washing powder?

Are you sure its plumbed in properly? Sometimes if the plumbing is a little bit out, bits of food get caught in the pipes instead of draining away which can make things smell. The other common place is of course the filters, sometimes food gets tucked under the rim of the place where the filter sits and you need to poke it out with the tip of a sharp knife. Can't think of any other reason why a fairly new dishwasher which is regularly cleaned should smell so bad.

We try to ensure food is scraped into the bin before stacking in the DW, it's not a pleasant job removing carrots from the filter.

Getting fed up buying dishwasher cleaner thats soo expensive!

It is incredibly expensive. Sainsbury's (only place I've found) do their own brand dishwasher cleaning tablets - 8 for about the same price as a single bottle of Finish dishwasher cleaner, and just as good, without the foul stink of Finish.
  • Thanks everyone for all your suggestions.

I'll try the lemon trick to keep it smelling fresh inbetween cleans.

I'm sure Lidl sell dishwasher cleaner and in tablets. Maybe Aldi do similar.
