Do you eat mashed potato? Every time we have it (and forget to rinse the plates/pan) it sticks to everything in the dishwasher, it especially seems to love glassware, and leaves a nasty gritty coating.
If you eat mash rinse the plates & pan well before putting in the dishwasher.
To remove it, i soak the glasses in the sink & it will dissolve/soften and you can wipe it off.

It doesn't sound like limescale, that sort of builds up without you noticing until your dishes are dull and your glasses opaque. It sounds more like bits that are suspended in the rinse water redepositing themselves and then being dried on by the drying cycle. Possible causes could be.
Mashed potato as a previous poster has said. It's an absolute devil.
Filters and spray arms need cleaning.
Dishwasher is overstacked.
You're not using enough detergent. It contains chemicals which suspend bits in the water and stops them sticking back on ya dishes.
Not using the pre-rinse cycle first for V.dirty or V.full loads.

I have noticed that if I use a packet spice mix such as a taco mix or fajhita mix this often happens.. as the spices are too small to be filtered out and end up clining to eveything........
To fix this I either rince the pan out very well 1st or put the dishwasher on a rinse cycle after it has finished and it usually comes off0 -
My thank to everyone for replying.
Yes, I often clean sweetcorn out of the arms. We love sweetcorn, and I always think I've been really careful about scraping plates clean, yet it still ends up there?
Mashed potato could well be the culprit. I wondered if it could be, but it didn't really look like mash.
Hmmm, if it bungs up the dishwasher, despite all it's rinses and filtering system, what's it doing to my intestines?
To be honest, it;s only a slimline, cos we can't fit a bug one, and there are 9 of us, so it's possibly a tiny bit overloaded occasionally.
Once again, manyu thanks.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

I regularly clean the filter of my dishwasher (just in hot soapy water), spray all over inside with a vinegar/water mix, then put a cup of vinegar inside & run it empty on the hottest wash. Previously I would have bought one of those special dishwasher cleaner bottles, but this works just as well for a fraction of the price.0

Sounds like you are overloading the dishwasher, this will cause food specks on the dishes. So can washing them on the wrong cycle, or not using enough detergent.0

Sometimes my crocks seem to have bits on them, and they feel gritty.
Is this limescale?
I always check salt and rinse aid, and I've used dishwasher cleaners, but it still seems to happen.
I used to fit dosing equipment on dishwashers, before I became a Pirate.
I always recommended that all items, Plates etc are stacked facing the centre of the machine, the garden sprinkler theory, that the water is thrown out from the centre of the revolving wash jet arms, also check that the very ends of these arms are not blocked with pips stones etc, this can stop the arms revolving.!!!!!!There are More Questions Than Answers!!!!!!
