The best option to offer and depending on where they want to get to in central London is just to take the C2C from Basildon themselves and change onto the Jubilee at West Hame which will take them straight to central London.
I think you'll find that the OP asked for the closest to central London.
And s/he didn't specify day or time.0 -
I agree.
Going anywhere near the A3 would be madness.

Youll also find that they said tube station not train station but the A13 can be mental at any time day or night. And the best free bit would be taking the train from Basildon and leaving their car at home."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
I don't know how much the train costs from Basildon, but on the other side of the river, it's a fair bit cheaper to drive from many parts of Kent than take the train. I wouldn't want to do it in rush hour, but other times of day/days of week it seems okay.
I would say that Rotherhithe/London Overground was more of a tube station than Basildon/C2C. You can also walk from Rotherhithe to Canada Water or Bermondsey on the Jubilee Line.0 -
I have no idea you could possibly say that it is like a tube station - because its underground? Its a full sized railway for crying out loud(ony just)
Its £19.90 for a travelcard from Basildon. Also much quicker too."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

£19.90 for a whole day? I could go to Birmingham and back with that fuel0 -

I'm sure you must know that (a) it was a Tube station until relatively recently (and the station itself has not changed), (b) that the London Overground brand is an extension of the Tube, with interchangeable ticketing, and (c) you are just being pedantic, and it doesn't make any difference whether it's technically a tube station (whatever that means) or not.
I'd guess that there is a reason why the OP doesn't want to take the train from Basildon - otherwise, he would not have started the thread in the first place. And if it costs £20, that seems like a good reason.0 -
so there is no possibility for some kind of station near A12, A13?0

Most SE stations now have limited paid parking and local on-street parking restrictions.
You could try to take advantage of parking at Lakeside, train from Chafford Hundred, maybe? That's still £10.50 off-peak return, though.
What day/time are you travelling and where in central London are you travelling to (or is it a general sight-seeing trip)?0 -
mainly afternoon saturday and anywhere in central london, it doesn't matter as I will take the tube0
