What influence do we have over EU decision making?

As much influence as any other comparably sized country in the EU.

And a lot more than countries like Norway.....

A bit more if our elected representatives actually attended votes etc icon8.gif
UKIP MEPs have failed to protect British business interests in Brussels, according to party defectors and an FT analysis that showed the party misses key votes and committees, while claiming hundreds of thousands of euros in pay and expenses

AIUI, most are voted on by ministers.

    A bit more than what?

The fact that we have a seat and "influence" has been bought up several times now.

But what influence do we have? Maybe I'm not hearing about the success stories, but all we seem to hear about in the media is how we have failed to do X Y and Z when it comes to the EU.

The media have much to answer for icon9.gif The crap that they inject into peoples minds is astounding.
    7. Immigration and ethnicity: the public think that 31% of the population are immigrants, when the official figures are 13%[viii]. Even estimates that attempt to account for illegal immigration suggest a figure closer to 15%. There are similar misperceptions on ethnicity: the average estimate is that Black and Asian people make up 30% of the population, when it is actually 11% (or 14% if we include mixed and other non-white ethnic groups)[ix].

What specific influence do we have? (third time!)

Only this morning, we have yet another example of how the EU is working for us. North Devon fisherman are losing income as we stick to strict quotas on fishing in the Bristol Channel.

Good stuff. Fish stocks are low, let's give them time.

Trouble is, what it's really done is removed the competition for Belgium vessels who continue to crawl the waters, taking not a blind bit of notice of the EU. The English trawlermen are throwing the catch back in, and the Belgium trawlers re-catching them and taking them with them.

It's all grand having influence, but exactly what influence we have is the question I'm asking....as I'm sure you are aware, but seem unable to answer....

An expert on coupons you may be Graham, a savant of agriculture, fisheries and food you are not.

Consider for one moment that fish will swim freely throughout the entire ocean, and not always in a straight line.
