Will Change of Broadband Provider - Improve Speed and Reliablity?

Hi
I'm after a bit of advice we are with the Post Office for unlimited Broadband. Where we live were are only on an old ADSL exchange and get about 2mbps.
We accept this, but our internet just seems to intermittantly work or fail. It some times doesnt work for hours then the next day without doing anything it works.
We've logged calls with Postoffice, then then do a line check or get openreach to look at it and say its ok. Then a few hours later it stops working again.
What I want to know is if I change to another provider could this solve the issue, or is it likely to be the same?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

yes and no lol
If you have a bt wholesale exchange probably not.
if its LLU, then possibly if your current broadband provider is using faulty equipment.0 -
Hi
Thanks JustJohn I think it's a BT wholesale exchange.
Has anybody else had experience of problems with PostOffice Broadband and did they switch to another provider?
Thanks0 -
Have you tested from the master socket .
What connection is dropping ethernet cable or wifi .
Have you rebooted the router .0 -
Hi
We've only got one one socket in the house and the phone line works find just the ADSL keeps failing. The router is showing as ASDL not connected and if I use the WIFI or cabled from the router it still fails.
I've also tried a netgear instead of the Zytel router and both fail.
To me given Openreach said the line was OK just yesterday then the ADSL failed again, I think it could be a PostOffice issue at the ISP, anybody has similar issues with the PostOffice or got any ideas if another router or ISP would fix it?

First change the ADSL filter .

Good idea, I'll put my old Microfilter in which I had with my previous netgear router. Worth a go

Phone lines will work with 2 bits of rubbish wire TBH. ADSL/Broadband needs a solid connection with little interference.
See if you have a test socket on your main phone line socket into the house as per http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/what-test-socket
Plug your microfilter into the test socket and leave it there for 48-72 hours and see if you get any further dropouts.
If so then it's likely something outside the house/beyond your control. If it works fine then it's something to do with the wiring within your house/interferance0 -

how long is a piece of string? its one of those questions.
whoever you go with it will still come down the same phone line you have now, the only difference will be if you change provider then the line from exchange to cabinet will change while from cabinet to your premises will stay the same so if the problem is from cabinet to premises then a change of provider will not make any difference.
line tests by your provider are just basic tests and will not show some problems at all. have you arranged a appointment for a engineer to come out and check the line? because its a broadband problem you want a SFI engineer, they have all the equipment and can work with your provider to fix problems or move you to a different card in the exchange on the providers equipment.
if you dont ask for a SFI engineer you could well get non sfi engineer who will just pass it on to the next available SFI engineer if they cannot fix the problems on the line.
intermmitent problems are the worsed and can be a nightmare to find even for an engineer.
do your problems get worse when its raining, wet?
does your phone line from the telegraph pole run through trees? this can cause intermittent problems as the cable sheathing gets worn away by tree branchs which lets water in and intermittent problems start.
have more questions but will give you chance to reply0 -

Do they dig up the road ?? Change the cable or is the box marked up as TT cable PN cable BT cable ??0 -
Hi
After trying the test socket and the connection still dropping at least about 6 times today and and trying my Netgear DGN1000 which seems to loose the connection even more often I've been looking at other posts and other with the problem have either asked the Post Office for Thomson Router or bought something like a Billion 7800 modem router.
I wonder if anybody else has had connection dropping issues with the standard Zyxel AMG 1302_T10A router and has replaced it with another router and did this fix the problem?
Any help or similar experiences out there?
THanks0
