Using pedal can give it a bit of a beating too.
Yep, I've had an aged clutch master die on attempting to bleed fluid through.

I've had success with just leaving the bleed nipples open for a while, as a lazy-man's option.

Yes, you can with the right diameter tube. I used my Pela on Saturday to do just that having replaced the two rear flexis on my dad's motorhome.

    Pela, that's the name! :)

Ah gravity bleeding, tried that once then went to get a neighbour to pump the pedal!

I'm not a troll, and I actually thought the Yaris only has brakes at the front.

I saw the rear side when the tyre was removed and I didn't see a brake disc, it was just a rusted plate holding the wheel with bolts. This was why I thought it had brakes only up at the front.

That'll be a brake drum then - there are brake shoes inside there. drum at the back and disk at the front.

Justin do you live in London? Would you kindly show me how the brake fluid change is performed on the Yaris?

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you had to ask a question about braking systems like this then I really don't think you should be changing the fluid yourself. Much better to pay the price and let someone else do it - you don't mess about with braking systems if you don't know what you are doing.

Anyway, brakes are a sore subject at the minute - just had to replace the rear shoes on mine after one started to delaminate! then had a look at the front and realised I need to replace the pads and disks! might as well change the fluid while on so it's all sorted for winter - well, what I should say is I will get my mate to do it - it's great having a mate who is a mechanic! I will be on tea and coffee duty! :)

The brake bleeder nipple is apparently 11mm. So I guess I'd need a 11mm size diameter to fit to the oil extractor. Where would I get this from?

I really cant believe what i am reading here :eek:

reading the first post on this tread and the question you asked the last thing in this world that you should be doing is trying to change your own brake fluid

the brakes are one of the important system on the car so leave them well alone

you are trying to make us believe that you have the coin to own and run a BMW M3 but you are quibbing about spending a few quid to let somebody who Knows his rr,s from his elbow do the job for you

I agree with the other points here that you really shouldn't be messing with things here. Yes, the bleed nipple will need an 11mm spanner to undo it, but GOD NO it won't need 11mm diameter pipe. That's the kind of bleed nipple you'd find on an ocean liner.

Look, DM, it's simple. Stick your head under the back and LOOK. If it isn't obvious what you're looking at, LEAVE IT TO SOMEBODY COMPETENT.

OK, you dive in and start. The bleed nip on a cylinder strips it's thread. Now what? You pull the drum off, and find the cylinder's leaking or the shoes are worn or delaminating. Now what?
