    Help and advice please!

I have wondered about the easiyo or similar. Do you have to buy the packs to make the yoghurt, or is there an easier/cheaper way? If you have to have the packs, I don't think it's very cost effective, but if there's a secret recipe, then I may have to try it!!! Does anyone have any help for me?!! Tia xx

I haven't used mine yet, but there is a thread on here about it; and apparently you can start it off with plain yogurt or a small pot of Greek yogurt, and reserve a little for the next batch ... and so on and so forth.

Miine was half price, so cost effective. Just need to get going with it!

You can use same recipe for lo ham and lo veg as well. Just add at the stage where you put it all in a dish and omit the bacon bit. I agree - very yum

Yes, definitely. I think It'd be good for any LO meat really.
I used pork stock as I was using bacon, which really made the difference I think.

It was pretty calorific I think, but I think crème fraiche is lower in calories (and I was using the half fat one too). so hopefully not too bad really.

Just a quick post as visitors only just gone. Had a busy day babysitting my dgd and then my visitors but I love seeing people, but they always seem to turn up on one of my busy days.

Anyway had a small spend on food £5.98, dgd library fine 0.15 and euro's £34.48 so total £40.61 I'm going to include the Euro spend in my grocery spends as I really don't need to draw any more money out of my account and I'm sure I can do this.

  • Hello!

Thanks for all of the advice and ideas about yoghurt and cheese making. I am going to try to make some yoghurt at the weekend, providing I can buy the bits, but the cheese will have to wait, as I just don't have the time!

Have had 4 nsds in a row now, and tom will be one too. In fact, not only will I not spend any money, but I will be provided with dinner and a stunning fireworks display! (I'm helping out at work's fireworks night!) all I have to do in return, is stand in the freezing cold for two hours selling hot dogs, oh, and slicing several hundred rolls beforehand! Oh the joys!

Anyway, I have been eating down the freezer recently. It's helped to keep the spending down, and making me feel better. I don't want to have so much crammed into it, as then I can't find anything and only end up using the top half inch of each shelf!

Will shop on Sunday; shouldn't need to before that... Short list too: cheese spread triangles, frozen peas, yogs, yog making stuff, bread, milk, f and v, cheese and not a lot else.

    Night all,

Frugal 2018 needed! Saving and NOT spending
  • Hello I am joining the November budget and this is the first step in taking control of my money.

I am setting a budget of £200 for the month and I am going to break it down to £50 per week anything not spent will be moved to a seperate pot.

    Let's see how it goes.

I started on 1st November but I am only just posting this.

    Here we go then.

Only the 2 of us, a cat with expensive fussy food tastes, 2 ducks, 20 hens and 4 chicks.

We all live in a rural location in Orkney Islands where shopping goes from ridiculously cheap to stupidly expensive.

We spend a lot more than this in a month but I want to go cold turkey and jump straight in at a budget I would be happy with if I couldn't do any better and not mess about with small savings.

My ultimate goal is less than £200 per month and £100 would leave me over the moon :j:j:j

I am a competent baker, savvy shopper and keen gardener.

    No excuses, here we go

    Hello Money poor,

Great to have another rural person on the thread. I live on a hill farm in Wales, have a few chucks, veg garden, own meat etc.

I hope you achieve your aim. Good luck.

    Good morning,

I am off to Italy and my budget for the next 6 days, until next Tuesday, is 180 Euros. This gives us plenty of money to have fun, a few drinks and ice creams and a pizza, and a couple of bunches of flowers for the Aunties.

I have that sum in cash so I should be ok. It is a good sum to give us a few treats, I really want it to be a relaxed few days, not too strict. We might even spend less than that if we are wise.

The only expenses that will be extra (and paid with credit card so there is no surcharge - Nation Wide) will be stuff to take back, a bottle of booze that DS has requested, a gift for the lady who looks after our cat while we are away and possibly a couple of litres of 100% pure spirit, so I can make my limoncello. Here in the UK you cannot buy it, so am more than justified in importing it for personal use!

One more expense which might happen, although I doubt it will be, is a restaurant meal with my Aunt and cousin and her family. We always offer to pay, and would be delighted to do so, to thank them for their hospitality, but they never allow us. However, we will keep trying and we would be delighted if we did manage to pay, as we really want to give them a treat.

It won't be much as we eat pizza and it is very cheap, but it will be more than our cash budget and will need to come out of credit card.

Will keep the receipts and let you know on my return.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
