Go to garage, get the V5C, call Swansea, tax the car there and then and then sort out the paperwork.0

I think it's still under the previous keeper's name, so I'd rather go and sort out the paperwork at the garage. Plus, if I understood, the trader is in charge of sending the V5 to the DVLA, not me?
I will check if the V5 is the original one like he said, how can I tell if it's a duplicate?
I will carry out a full HPI check just in case. The trader did one (using Autocheck) but apparently logbook loans don't show on a basic HPI check..?0 -
Ok, I picked up the V5 at the garage yesterday.
It was the original one with the name and signature of the keeper, so the garage didnt fill out anything. I kept the green slip and went to the post office to tax and send the V5 to DVLA.
I checked the V5, everything matched with the car (VIN, registration etc..), but the engine number was different from the one I had on the receipt... ??0 -

Just found this.

Looks like you could have filled out a V62 at the post office and got tax.0 -

Yeh but if the engine was replaced, I should have certainly received another piece of paper proving it? (like a bill or something?)
I haven't been told about this at all when buying the car from the garage. (im assuming they probably didnt know as well)0 -
I double checked the car's paperwork again and nothing mentions an engine replacement0

if its relatively new car then I would say the value just dropped to rock bottom if the engine and v5c numbers don't match.
if its a budget car then forget about it its not going to affect resale.0
