There is no contradiction, both groups are eligible. Why should it matter what income there is when the levels of disabilities are equal? I actually said that even a millionaire is able to claim, not that it didn't matter if you were a millionaire. The payment is based on the disability.

it's whether the criteria for elligibility are set fairly

If it is not based on disability then the only alternative is means testing.

If you feel this is a moral issue then, using your logic, no benefit should be paid to those who do not, financially, need them. This would include child benefit, state pension, subsidised medical care, bus passes, WFP and so on.

Of course there are other groups that are struggling, but usually there can be options eg only have children you can afford, work when you can. You are advocating the segregation of 1 section of society. Explain please how you can magic away disabilities and ill-health, there are no options, no choices and usually no end to it. Money is no compensation for being disabled, I hope you never have to find out for yourself.

I, for one, do not distinguish between the DLA and the State Pension I receive. I don't say this £ can only be spent for this and that £ for that.

I'm the same with my ESA and DLA. I have some months where I'm having to spend my ESA on disability equipment, rather than general day to day expenses.
My view is that the latter is discriminating as there are other groups in society who struggle or who are more likely struggle with 'normal' life, but they are not entitled to additional income.

I know very few who see it as compensation. Why should other groups be entitled to additional income? If you have a child, you may receive the relevant child benefits, etc. Other groups (apart from carers) have the option to work more hours. Many disabled people can't even work.

You will never have a fair system. I don't agree with means testing - you will end up with people who are financially worse off because they have a disability. How is that right?

Even with DLA, some of us are much worse due to being disabled.
