if you actually read my post you would have seen that i said if you move the car on before the winter tyres are worn out then you can easily move on the alloys with part worn tyres
from that i was referring to having two sets two sets of wheels
as you said if you only have one set of wheels it is £80.00 a year to swap times four is £320.00 total loss
my second set of alloys cost me £80.00 and now i have cleaned them and they look mint i could double my money on them or easily make more than i paid for them0 -

Just get set of steels. You can swap them yourself and not have to worry on paying garage to do so.
Will the same ones fit a Yaris, BMW and Audi?Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
Got a set of winter tyres that came with my car when I bought it so this will be first year of switching to them. When's the best time to fit them, is it just based on average temperature?
I will be swopping over to my set of winters when the frost warning lights up on the car in the morning.
Or what force ten says below, but being this far north I have driven on ice before the clocks change.0 -

I normally put mine on when the clocks change regardless of the temperature, as once you get into november the temperature in the mornings can be well below 7 deg c but it warms up in the day to above 7 deg
so mine go on the weekend the clocks change and they come off at around the time the clocks change in march dependent on the forecast for april
contrary to popular belief you wont destroy winter tyres by using them at temps above 7 deg, the tyre may wear a little quicker but nothing that you would notice0 -

I had that on sunday morning at 7.00am temp on the car showing 4 deg C
but as i said mine will go on the weekend the clocks change, but if you are getting temps constantanly below 7 deg in the morning then get them on now0 -

I don't I'd entertain the idea of changing over tyres, even if they were on steel wheels. Don't think it would make economic sense for me to get an extra set of steelies, it would make the car look ugly and I need to buy an extra set of tyres. As soon as my summer tyres tread go, I'm just gonna look for set of all season tyres.
Anyway tyres/alloy sizes for the Yaris, A3 and BMW are all very different. Yaris will soon go by the end of this year. I don't take my M out when its snowing anyway so I'll keep the existing michelin cups on them, plus I'd rather not spend an extra £200 plus per corner on a winter tyre for that car.0 -

The Quatracs did seem to wear out faster and the Nexen's I've got on at present do seem to be wearing quite quickly. My 'favourites' were the Kumhos, tbh. I had them on my 528i, and used it all the way through the winter of 2011 when we had snow on the ground up here from October 17th right through to January.
The Kumhos Solus Vier KH21 havn't seemed to get great reviews according to tyrereviews.co.uk, but for the price I can't complain.
Because I only do around 8k miles/year I don't particularly mind if a brand of tyre wears out faster than another, if it provides superior grip. How were the Kumhos in the dry and damp? Were you still able to drive in a spirited manner with the E39 528i?0 -

Just south of Glasgow and you'd put winter tyres on when it goes below 10C...
that'll be 364 days a year then
and this is coming from East of Glasgow!.
...yeah if I had a set .... you think east of Glasgow is colder than south?..point of that comparison??.....and since tyre manufacturers say that grip starts to degrade from 9C and below0 -

Hello, BTW I have the E92 M, same as the E90 but coupe.
You are correct, the M can be driven in snow, probably light snow even with the low profile sport tyres.
With proper winter tyres, it can be driven but like I said I rather not spend another £1000 for a set of 4 winter tyres.
Regarding that video, and other videos of M cars in snow, you do need driver skill to make sure you don't crash into a lamp post and I'd rather not risk it. If I'm honest I do not have the proper driving skills required to pull off such stunts safely.0
