Summer tyres for winter?

I have recently acquired an S line '07 plate A3 from a family member. It has 18 inch wheels with 2 Goodyears and 2 Continentals sport contacts low profile 225/40r/18.
Both tyres are summer/sporty tyres and all have good thread, around 5mm.
Now, as winter is coming up, is it worth spending money on winter tyres or do you think these tyres should be good enough? I will be doing around 160 miles/week. These summer tyres are around £130-150 new but I can buy new budget winter tyres for £50ish each.
Would the budget winter tyres, i.e. Nankang, be superior to the Goodyears and Continentals low profile tyres?
Is this to replace the yaris(s) the lexus or the M3 model that you have in your bedroom. Just below the pictures of one direction.0 -

That margin for error is needed so infrequently by so few people, its not worth the time, money and effort of getting specialist tyres swapped on and off to mitigate for it. Simple cost/benefit stuff mate.
I'm sorry that you guys have so much trouble driving in anything but perfect road conditions.
I'm sorry you've all swallowed the tyre company's marketing material and spent lots of money on tyres 99% of the population get by just fine without.
I'm sorry you now feel the need to try and convince all and sundry that they need these tyres, to make you feel better about your needless purchase.
Do tell us the as you claim to be such an unqualified expert.
What rubber do you run your bmx on?
Do yo not suffer any loss of grip when you corner hard at 7-15 on a frosty morning into Festive Road or suffer any loss of braking capacity outside number 52 as you strive to deliver the morning paper to Mr Benn?0 -

''Yeah, this will show the nasty internet man who doesn't agree with me - I'll insinuate he's a kid! Take that!''
I'll say it again - your whole life seems to reveolve around posting on here, surely at some point you'll manage something clever or funny?0 -

Can't fault you for missing his best replies, they're saved for past your bedtime0 -
Past my bedtime - cos I'm a kid, right?! Brilliant!
Tell you what lads, think I've bitten off more than I can chew with this high level banter.
I'll have to think long and hard before I mock your foolish purchases in future!0 -

I never insinuated you were a kid merely suggested as you don't claim any qualifications in the motor trade you probably haven't got any. So a paper round maybe the pinnacle of your life's achievemnts.0 -

Well, what have we here - a poorly spelt mum joke :rotfl:
Think I'm getting a better idea of what level I'm dealing with here - somehow I don't think I'm the one most likely to be doing a paper round!0 -
