There is a lot of misinformation coming out of EE about this particular company. I have spoken to the regulator, PhonepayPlus, about this and what they've told me is interesting.
Apparently Mobitrans is not a normal third party service. There is an "arrangement" between EE and Mobitrans which means firstly that the regulator is powerless to act, but more importantly, in their words, "It is the responsibility of the mobile network operator to ensure complaints are addressed and where applicable, valid refunds are issued."
EE are still trying to wash their hands of it and fob people off, but if you persist they are required to refund you. More details are on mobitransscan dot wordpress dot com. Apparently I can't link directly because I'm a new user here.0 -
Quoting:I think it is clear from “interaction history” that ifthis has been done ( and I have not checked ) then it is a very simple actionto make perhaps even from putting an unlocked phone in your pocketActually, from an analysis of the "evidence" Mobitrans have been providing to people who complain, it's not even clear that it's as much as this. They have sent things they claim to be proof, but a technical investigation shows that it's the same information they get when they serve you (unsolicted) a banner advert from any website you visit, whether or not you click.
No doubt the screen is a pop up and the subscribe button is waytoo big , there should be legal guidelines on steps for confirmation required ,not everyone checks their messages every moment of the day ( for me it was over7 days before I saw any messages on my phone )
In non-technical terms their "evidence" of your subscription is the equivalent of a takeaway claiming they can prove you made an order because they found their menu in your bin.0 -
I'm with EE as my mobile supplier and I received 2 text messages in quick succession this morning, one from Mobitrans (advert telling me about great courses) and one from Macademy (confirming my £4.00 per week subscription), which I knew nothing about.
I texted STOP MACADEMY to 80206 and received a confirmation text from them that my subscription has been cancelled but I have been charged £4 per week for the last 3 weeks for something it appears they have covertly subscribed me to on 10th August.
I spoke to EE customer services just now and they were very helpful. The assistant noted he has applied for a refund and put a block on my account. Also recommended I report the issue to 'phonepayplus' which I have done. He also said they have had a lot of complaints about this and he knew exactly what my issue was going to be as soon as I said Macademy.
This is an obvious scam on two parts. The first covertly signing you up to a service you don't want or need, the second relying on people treating the apparently random 'text stop' messages as a scam and ignoring them meaning the first a user realises they've been charged they'll have already lost around £16 in a month - easy money for the company. Disgusting and something that EE should not be allowing.0 -
I also am a T mobile customer and was charged 4 times by this mob on my recent bill. I called T mobile immediately and they cancelled my 'subscription' and requested a refund. I had been deleting the texts from mobtrains because I thought it was a scam (as I have never knowingly agreed to any subscription) and would be charged if I text STOP to them ( which the texts urged me to do). As soon as T Mobile were on the case I got an email from Mobile training Academy saying when I had activated my subscription and had never opted out by texting STOP when they sent me texts but now my subscription was cancelled!! I reply that I had never knowingly subscribed ( still don't know why I was charged) and that I would be reporting them to trading standards - which I urge others to do.0

Careful - you need to stick .uk after the org. If you miss it out, you're on a lookalike site with suspiciously bad English...0

I have been charged 4 pounds per week by Mobitrans on EE network. I complained to EE but customer service of EE is extremely unhelpful and say i need to talk to Mobitrans. Mobitrans refuses to refund back the money. Found 100s of impacted customers in similar Fraud on google. All seem to be on EE.
Not sure why regulatory body is not taking any action.
i have never subscribed to any service or have never used any service from them0 -
Text STOP MACADEMY. To 80206. That stops subscription did it myself this afternoon. Scamming b*******. It wont get your money back. But, it stops subscription0

EE had been taking money from me since July. I complained by phone to EE on 18/10. As expected they attempted to send me back to Mobitrans, which I refused to do as my contract is with EE and it was EE who took the money from me.
I told them that as I hadn't subscribed to any third party app or consented to these charges, the £55 taken from me must be a fraudulent transaction. After three more calls to EE today I was offered £25 which I refused. By the fifth call they agreed to refund the money to me in full.
Each time I told them I wasnt satisfied with their response, that I refused to engage with Mobitrans and that I insisted on speaking to a manager.
Do not give up, persist and stick to your guns.
Best of luck.0 -
