Today's top BBC news business story - if you cash in your pension it is taxable. Apparently this stealth tax is set to catch out millions....
Millions will cash in just to get the money, with no regard to how they will live in old age. They won't care that they lose some of their handout to tax as before now they didn't expect to see a penny.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It's an odd thing to call that a stealth tax. If you cash in your pension fund, you can have 25% tax-free, and the balance is taxable as income. That's simple enough. Everybody doing this is supposed to get independent counselling, so the tax should not come as a surprise.
"And then in a few years time, there will be some 'pension withdrawal misseling' scandal..."
I hope that whoever is doing the counselling is keeping very, very careful records. Otherwise, it is going to be very expensive for them in the future. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Although who will be to blame here?
Banks are acting on client instructions, and clients are guaranteed to this by legislation, so surely it's either the client or (unfortunately) the government that are going to have to pay this if there is.💙💛 💔0
