New BBC News website
What are NPs views. I am trying not to complain in the 'new is differet is worse' mindset and realise that not everyone is like me who prefers to consume news in a written rather than video format
What annoys me to no end is that nowadays who twitters what is also considered news. For example the Joni Mitchell being hospitalized story. Billy Idol twitters this and Boy George tweets that. So what.
Maybe I'm just becoming an old fart.0 -
Happy Birthday, lir.

Same here. I don't consume much news in video format either. Will always try to look for a more in-depth written word source.

No, it's just that the rest of the world are a bunch of onanists.
You can get more and better information usually from a minute of reading vs 2 minutes of watching a video. Plus I don't end up paying a squillion bucks in data costs if I read something. Plus I can skip back a couple of words if I need clarification and then go back to exactly where I was.

The nice thing about not working Mondays in industry is that you get BHs with the kids anyway and a little extra flexibility for family holidays. That was something I appreciated when I was in that world, but I appreciate that may be of no importance to fir when lir doesn't work a 'regular' job.
But what should no be a matter of mindset is basic employment rights and waiving them. For a PT worker in a workplace where they might offer 20 days plus bank holidays to full timers, a PT who does not work Mondays (particularly) is at a real disadvantage if the employer doesn't recognise that everyone is allowed allowed at least 28 days holiday. It makes up nearly two weeks off and 25% of overall entitlement. That's not mindset, it's a basic right. 28 days off in a year isn't exactly living it up.
A friend had the opposite problem. She worked Mondays and Tuesdays, so 40% of FT, but a lot of BHs were on her work days and she was only entitled to 40% of bank holidays. SHe had major problems sorting childcare for the extra days she was expected to work to allow for the excess Mondays.PasturesNew wrote: »I don't watch any video content...it involves actively standing up and turning the speakers on, then adjusting the sound... not worth it for a clip. I have just discovered podcasts. Ironically from reading an article in The Times suggesting podcasts as a new media source. The recommended listening is a podcast called "Startup" about starting a new business venture in the modern age. The new business venture is a podcast creating/ selling business. It is actually very interesting listening.

Completely agree... aiui it's part of the move towards the BBC News app and away from the website I think. More people are using apps and web access declining. So a way of meeting that.
On a different thread in the arms, someone was asking what you would say to someone from the 1950s who knows nothing of the modern world. Someone answered that they could have a device in their pocket with which they could look up almost all human knowledge, but which is used by many to access pictures of cute kittens and tell their friends what they had for breakfast (paraphrasing because I couldn't find a link). Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Podcasts are brill. I'd recommend
There's No Such Thing as a Fish (if you like the kind of facts they have on QI
"The Moth" if you want to hear true stories told by the people they happened to and
the radio 4 Friday Night comedy show (the News Quiz and/or the Now Show).
