Only you know/can assess how you teaching him would work out.
If you think it would work out, better to have another GCSE of interest and use than one where he has no interest/aptitude whatsoever.0 -
Grr. Obviously overused phone networking today. The backlight has gone.0

Agree with LIR. Do the science.0

Sounds like she's got your measure already :rotfl:
Hope you're all arriving home about now. :jHope you've practised working the car seats!
Didn't Prince William confess to having practised putting the car seat in several times before collecting Prince George and Kate from the hospital?DQWD:
Sounds intriguing and, hopefully, better than you originally anticipated?
I had a 'small world' moment earlier today. I started Uni in 1989 and used to sit next to the same chap in the big lectures. Fancied him a little (sent him a Valentine's card in our first year)
Anyway, I found out today that he's been asked to provide practitioner input on a training project I'm also working on. When the project lead mentioned the practitioner's name, I asked a few identifying questions (nationality, age, brief description) and it did seem it was the same person. She rang him and indeed it was - he remembers me and thinks we were in the same tutorials too. Blimey0 -
Anyway that you can suggest that they encourage more people to choose history rather than encourage those that chose it to pick something else? Could they swap the 2 histories over if the new course is putting people off?
They've always done the alternative history course in the block where all the languages are. It has usually had a smaller than average class size, and gone at a slightly gentler pace than "normal" history. This year the head of MFL seems to have done a fantastic job at persuading everybody to do a language, hence not enough people opting for history in that block. I don't think they would be willing to tell all the other kids in one of the other blocks that they have to do SHP history when they thought they were opting for the more traditional style of history course.I think an extra science with a good grade is better than a bad language gcse, but 2 disadvantages (1) teaching your own child could bring its own difficulties (2) its a very heavy science load. Have you considered other subjects eg statistics or geology?
Another option may be to study a gcse at evening college?
I could teach DS. When I try to help DD with stuff, the dynamic doesn't work and we end up arguing, but with DS it does work and I think we could do it. Fortunately DD does not need me to teach her much. She is an all-rounder academically, which DS is very much not.
I suspect that his future lies in computing or related areas. He will end up with 2xEng, maths, 3xsci, either history or phil & eth, drama, food & computing. I think expanding to triple science is a more viable option for him than trying to do stats or geology - at least the phys third of it is stuff I teach every day at work.Agree with LIR. Do the science.
Thank you to all of you who've more or less said this - including those of you who think I can teach bio! We shall have to see how it goes. I am rather relieved that nobody is telling me to try to make him do business studies.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Just to offer a counter-argument (and I wonder why I'm not popular...), maybe he'd really enjoy it if he tried it? Has he ever studied anything similar? Could be a good 'humanity' option... (if it even is one!).
Having said that, in this new world of MOOCs etc I'd guess it would be easy enough to find a course to do online to try it out and pick it up at 'A' Level/ later.
I'd think extra sciences would be a more solid option to change from later (but I'm a scientist so hardly impartial).0 -

I'm NOT a scientist I'm a natural arts student who read science. I still think for Lydia's ds science is his best option.
Geology as an option? I didn't read that before......that might be a good option, but would it have to be either or. Is it just me or is that a bit of a random, if interesting, GSCE option? Or is it a mistype for geography?0 -

If she had been on her own the majority of the time God knows what sort of state she would have been in by now.
When DD1 was born by emergency section just before midnight she got moved to ward finally about 3AM (?) and I was told I was not allowed to stay  Not sure if I would have been allowed had we taken an 'amenity room' (£500 per night) but at 3AM it was not possible to take one anyway. DW was very motivated and allowed home 4 days later.I think....0 -
Planned Caesar for Mrs Generali. Baby out at 5pm-ish Wednesday, both came home on the Saturday.
No opportunity to stay at the hospital and was booted off the ward at 9pm IIRC. Certainly in time to have dinner in the pub on the way home.
That was at UCH off Tottenham Court Road.0
