If the silver has any value potentially, get it valued before cleaning as cleaning it will take 30-90% off the possible sale price.
I think it depends on the market - jewellery always looks better clean, collectables probably not.

My main gripe is that the NCT in general appears to think that the word baby is not allowed to be combined with an article. "When washing baby, make sure you do x". It's not an effing character in dirty dancing. THE BABY. T...H...E!
The thing about breastfeeding is that once the mother and baby (or in your case babies) have got the hang of it, it's very very easy, convenient (and cheap!), as well as having all those benefits that the NCT have doubtless already bored you to tears with. However, the key phrase is "once they've got the hang of it" because for lots of people it doesn't just come naturally. Both mothers and babies need to learn how, or else it can become frustrating, distressing and painful, so that they conclude it doesn't work for them and give up sooner than they really wanted to, which the mother is often sad and disappointed about. NCT and other bf coordinators etc exist to fill the gap left by the "tribe" of experienced bf mothers that women in more primitive societies could rely on to teach them how in that first week or two.
The "tribe" would of course provide this help after the baby arrived, hands on, and in response to the particular difficulties that mother was having. The NCT etc have to try to provide pre-emptive help before the baby arrives, which is more difficult, and can often feel pointless. I doubt the fathers have much to do with the learning process in primitive cultures, but in ours the father is usually the only other adult in the house when the mother and baby(ies) are practising, so he needs to know what's what.
I have a friend whose job is in bf support. It's really not about making mothers do it when they don't want to. The NHS pays her to help mothers who do want to do it but need help to get started.
Totally agree with you about THE baby. You will find that when the babies arrive, your OH will similarly be addressed as "Mum".Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
My kindle died the other day, and I'm wondering whether to bury it in the garden? What sort of service would it want?
Dead electronics fetch silly money on Ebay. Either because there are enough amateurs out there who feel they can bring anything back to life or because someone somewhere is offering part exchange.
I sold an almost dead iPod because Apple were offering 10% off a new iPod for any part exchange.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If you are trying to create another low cost airline, and using old planes, it wouldn't be too terrible to leave the livery unchanged initially.
I think CK is looking for a deal on brand new planes from a manufacturer who having spent a fortune designing and building a small jet is desperate for customers as airlines are generally very conservative and seem to work on the basis that 'no one ever got fired for buying a boeing or airbus'.
I am amazed he has the time and energy needed to launch an airline with all his other businesses but I guess some are driven to be serial entrepreneurs and such people deserve our respect.I think....0 -

The highlight was the chocolate hobnobs.
Do you get two chocolate hobnobs for twins?
I would think it would be a tough challenge to exclusively breast feed twins, both in production volume and tiredness.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Actually, antique silver shops often have gleaming silver.
Silver isn't my favourite thing tbh. I have a beautiful small bowl given in a mellow moment by my sibling ( think its a regift, but I love it) and its usually not shiny, but gleaming silver in the right setting is a thing of beauty. So long as you clean it knowing its soft and won't take wear well, and with respect, and with antiques, respectfully and avoiding damaging cleaners.....do what ruddy suits you IMO.0 -

And not for the cleanlines
Think we last used them Christmas before last:o
We use a hodge podge ATM. Including some silver plate from the charity shop with anchors on them...as if they were made for something /some one ? I would consider rehoming them /selling them if I could work up the enthusiasm to bother. But I cannot, so we eat off them. And I put them through the dishwasher.
Go freak those who care about such things.
Edit: I forgot I also have some EPNS teapots I'm not keen on but for family political reasons can not get rid of. I think they are a bit depressing. I have a fantastic china teapot that's PAINTED silver which I think is brilliantly funny though know one else seems to think its as funny as I do. THAT is my Tea pot of choice for multiple cups of tea.0
