  • I've always had a house rule: NOTHING, EVER, goes in the loft.

I don't like it; I don't like that it's up there; I don't like lofts; lofts are scarey; I am not going to stick my head into a loft. It ain't gonna happen. So nothing ever, ever, goes in the loft.

I feel exactly the same, my last property had a flat roof and I was quite glad, because I would never go up in a loft! Now I have a ground floor flat, so no loft here either!

PN, I have lurked here a long time and find so many of your posts 'ring true' with me. For instance:

I had a wood-burning stove fitted 3 weeks ago and despite being very cold I have not been brave enough to light it, it looks very pretty though!

Going through the phone (or anything else) of a partner whom you have reason to suspect of cheating (or other objectionable behaviour) is necessary sometimes. I've done it too. You shouldn't feel guilty for that.

Going through a friend's phone isn't on. I agree with lir that of course our friends discuss us. I do try, however, to follow my dad's advice never to put anything in a text or email if it would be disastrous if the wrong person read it..

I sent an Uncomplimentary email about the head of dept to my immediate boss that was supposed to go to a friend :o
A little while ago viva posted a link to a TV ... just looking at it and I don't even understand what it means. But, it says "FULL HD screen, Freeview HD tuner"

I thought HD was useless unless you were in an HD area. How do you know?

Most places AFAIK have free view HD but that is still only 720p as is now TV. I think you need sky or bluray or PC output for 1080p full HD. However almost all TVs are now at least 1080p and I am sure this is worth getting so you can also use it as a PC monitor if need be. You should be able to get a 32 inch smart set for 150.

I can't believe I am allergic to sunshine on holiday, I was the only one walking on the beach in long trousers and a sweatshirt as well as a hat. I never used to be.

Edit: apparently this is out of date and free view HD is now sometimes 1080 p or i

  • PORK AND LENTIL CASSEROLE

The original recipe used belly pork but now I use the lean ready-cubed pork from the supermarket to cut down on the fat.

cube meat and brown off in a little oil, put in crock
chop a large carrot or two and a big onion and cook both in what remains in the pan till onion a bit soft, chuck this in with the meat.

Pour over enough stock (I use a pork one but veggie one will do) to cover, season and add any dried herbs you like, (its supposed to have a couple of bay leaves) then get your packet of dried red lentils and pour in a good couple of handfuls, give it a stir. Check the slow cooker after an hour or so and you might want to add more lentils. Leave to cook for a good few hours, I usually leave it for 8 but don't leave it for 14! :(

My slow cooker has an 'auto' setting, which means it starts off high then automatically goes down to low.

Sorry the recipe is a bit vague, I lost it ages ago and just use the 'bung it in' method now.

This is lovely with mashed spuds to soak up the 'lentil gravy'

Not getting medical on you, but could you be reacting to chemicals in sunscreen, or as a result of any medication you might be taking?

We get Freeview TV from the Crystal Palace transmitter, and we can view around 5 HD channels. If you can find out which transmitter your aerial is pointing at, it is simple enough to find out which channels it supports currently.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I typed my postcode into: http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability
    It said: Rowridge
Then it said: 10 Freeview HD channels, Over 20 Freeview channels, 11 radio stations

Nope, haven't used sunscreen, basically where my skin on my arms and lower legs has been exposed to the sun rather than going red/brown it has started to do this and then I am having an allergic reaction to the melatonin leading to bumps and spots, apparently this is quite common and happens mostly in spring before people get sensitised, of course I am entirely not sensitised at the moment. Luckily I brought some antihistamine as I wondered whether I might get hayfever.

    I've been Money Tipped!
This is the bit my first recipes will be avoiding. I've a gas hob and too scared to use it (never had gas).... so, until I am able to use it (gas, naked flames, general fear) I'm seeking recipes that are the sort of food I like the look/sound of, with few ingredients (preferably only those I already have/can easily get) - and NO browning :)

I do plan, however, maybe, experimenting with some microwave cooking of meat, rather than browning..... that's a plan B.

You can just omit this bit for most recipes. It won't have quite the same taste ( its that caramelising thing gen gave the proper name for a while a go) but worst bit for me will be the colour of finished dish. That kind of colour of greyish brown of lots of school food. If the colour isn't a huge deal for you then its probably not worth finding a way round browning. Microwaves cook from inside out or something don't they? My guess is that's the inverse of what you want to acheive in this process.

If its the gas that's causing your reluctance mainly would it not be worth buying a cheap electric cooker and selling your gas one on ebay?

Do they expect it to stop happening in due course?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I've been thinking this week that the loft is the first inside thing I should tackle here - so I can tuck away e.g. Christmas decs, large boxes (e.g. the one that my carpet cleaner came in), maybe even the carpet cleaner. I am thinking of treating myself to getting some loft ladders fitted too (which will need the loft hatch changing). I think this will help me to sort out e.g. the dining room.

Just rememberer what got me thinking about the loft - it was Doozergirl asking whether my loft was insulated. I also want to make sure it is properly insulated and board it out.

    allergic reaction to the melatonin

I'm definitely not a doctor, but whatever it is, I doubt it's an allergy to melanin - otherwise you'd continue to be allergic to it (i.e. it wouldn't seem to clear up).

(melatonin is the stuff that's involved in circadian rhythms)

Sounds a bit like polymorphic light eruption?

Whatever it is, hope it stops soon and you can enjoy not being in freezing fog (brrr) :)
