Thanks. Most melanomas are treated by surgery alone. It's effective in the majority of cases, where the cancer hasn't started spreading (unfortunately mel is v good at spreading, but generally treatable if caught early, which is why I keep my sig up). However treatment options beyond that are limited as the normal treatments such as chemo do not work as well. Anything that offers new hope is great news.

When I was initially screened, I went to a private clinic as the NHS would not take my concerns seriously as my tumour was non standard. The guy who started that clinic did so because he wanted to bring early treatment and screening. His cancer was missed and when I first went there, nearly ten years ago, he was not expected to be alive 3 years down the line. I don't know if he is still with us, but he certainly lived beyond that, presumably due to new treatments.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

It would really need a "once only" on/off timer, else it'd come on again :)

What if ... I got amnesia and didn't know/remember for a week who I was and where I lived?

You'd be safe, tucked up in bed in hospital somewhere. Insurance would pay for the cost of the fire. I do urge you to double check your insurance, but if you are fully insured and nobody is hurt my experience is that a fire is not quite the catastrophe you seem to think it is. It's a time consuming administrative headache rather than a disaster.

The 'nobody is hurt' is the bit that really matters, and there are precautions you can take to help with that.

In your catastrophe scenario, are you assuming that you have no ID on you when you lose your memory?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I hadn't really given it much thought, I was responding to queries to try to explain what might happen ..... I didn't expect the Spanish inquisition :)

It's not something that concerns me, just something, lurking at the back of my head, I occasionally am aware of - how you've left things at home in case you don't come back.

Have you thought of getting the local fire brigade to do a free home safety check? http://www.fireservice.co.uk/safety/hfsc
You could get good advice from them and they could provide some reassurance and tips. Never going to make the worries go away but would help you minimise them.

No need. House is new, has a fire alarm etc. Just mulling over what could happen if one turned on a slow cooker, went out - and was run down by the proverbial bus :)

I do remember someone telling me to wear clean underwear in case I was run over by a bus. Wrong on so many counts.

And here is one you can set for up to eight hours. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ANSMANN-AES-1-Energy-Saving-Timer-White/dp/B005C9S0I8

So, problem solved in a practical way, you can protect your slow cooker with a mains timer, and it really doesn't matter at all if you get run over by a bus. :)

    Sort of.

    PM sent :)

I have a slow cooker - it was a cheapo one from Currys, so it's a non-brand (Logik). It's a bit on the big side, but it has done everything I've ever asked of it - which amounts to sitting in it's box :o I'm hoping to give it a go this winter...

I have a hand held VAX, bought when the MSE spotted offer was on. It is going to give me grime free surfaces everywhere...when it comes out of its box.

OH is in holiday planning him mode. I am leaving him to it.

The only clue I have had is "if we fly premium economy, we can have a plunge pool". I assume that is a budgetary constraint rather than a plunge pool on a plane!
