To be fair I feel your pain, having shaved the goat (no that's not a euphemism) this year in aid of charity fundraising for Movember, the selection of my new manly mustachioed facial fuzz is proving to be quite the conundrum.

Raising money for charity is laudable, of course, but if you literally shaved a goat, isn't that cruelty to animals? ;)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

No Lydia, I know us Scottish people have a reputation for doing weird things with small farm animals on occasion, but I don't own a goat, and didn't shave one.....

    I was referring to a goat(ee).....;)

Taking one for the team I suppose.

I know that if the situation's entrenched then this is a slim hope, but all the same I hope that what you did helps the woman to realise that decent men don't think it's OK to start hitting when your partner doesn't agree with you, so therefore what is happening to her is not something she should accept.

Nothing to be impressed about. I'd expect any man to do the same thing. If we stand and watch bad things being done then we're complicit really. Even if someone doesn't feel able to intervene they should at least call the Old Bill.

I did have quite an adrenaline thing afterwards though. I strongly suspect I got at least one speeding ticket for going through a 60kph camera at about 85kph!

I thought so. Having not heard (until I just googled it now) of the euphemism that you were anxious to avoid implying that you meant, I was initially at a loss to understand what your "not a euphemism" meant, unless that "goat" was to be understood literally.

I was, however, reasonably certain that you hadn't been engaging in any cruelty to goats of the four-legged variety, which is why I edited my post to add a ;), although I think you may have read it before I did that.

Movember is a non-event in our house - we have nobody capable of growing facial hair as yet. DS tells me that at least one of his teachers is doing it, though. I haven't noticed any at my school, although I'm sure there was somebody last year.

Have you decided what to go for? And if you pick something different from what you used to have, will you keep the different style, or go back to what you like when Movember is over?

Happy to say DS will get there long before I do. The hairs on his upper lip are definitely thicker than they used to be, but only slightly, and although the hair on his head is gradually getting less blond, the hairs on his lip are still very pale, so you don't see them.

Nope.... Whatever works best I suppose.

I am contemplating going for the 'Mad Mel' look afterwards, just to annoy Mrs McT..... :)

I'm no superhero, I'm really, really not, but I won't stand by and watch a man beat his wife ever.

This bloke was older than me and I reckon if I'd pinched him he'd have cried. I'd react the same way if it was Ali (not that Ali would treat a woman like that I'm sure). If you don't stand up to these $@#@#ers then who will?

well done. thanks for "getting involved"

    Cheers.

That's an involvement that I will continue to have for decades to come.
