Signed up for Plusnet fibre deal through MSE. Paid a year in advance for line rental etc.. Made appointment for engineer for 26th Nov, 1-6 pm. Sat back and waited for router to arrive. It didn`t. Called them, was told someone had forgotten to put in the order, but engineer did not need router to set up. Waited for engineer to turn up. Engineer did not turn up. No call to let me know he wouldn`t. Called them again. They could not tell me when the engineer would come. Pointed out that without phone and internet they would not be able to inform me when he WAS coming, told them to take down my moble and use that (they hadn`t asked for it).
My current broadband and phone is being discontinued tomorrow. How long will I be without phone and broadband? I have no idea! If they are treating new customers this way, I shudder to think what is to come in the next 18 months of my contract. I have one day left of the 14 to cancel, and am looking for alternatives to plusnet if they fail to give me some real info today.
Ok, now got a call - they will get my phone working but no broadband for a few days. Router has arrived.0 -

I applied for the broadband + line rental uswitch deal when price was a bit lower than current link, and with a credit offer found after a bit of googling. Ordering was straightforward with code. Installed as promised with couple of texts along the way to confirm dates (one day for contractors to setup the cable in the street, another to install inside with me there). Installers were helpful and flexible about how I wanted it done. Download speed is around 50mbps as advertised (upload is 3mbps).0

The problem with VM is that they run their business like a car boot stall - you have to phone in regularly to avoid being ripped off. Then you find somebody else got a better deal.
In the main the speed you'll get is what you buy. Unless you are unlucky and your area suffers from oversubscription - then it can be beyond dire and takes months to get sorted out only to happen again a year or so later. Their capacity planning appears to be based on the number of complaints and they only upgrade if insufficient customers get fed up and leave so solving the problem for them.
Many are very happy with VM. I wasn't and would never return.0 -
If I ever move house.
It will only be to a VM fibre area.
That clear enough as to how happy? Recently installed an AC1750 router, getting 131mb/sec wireless on a 152mb connection (which peaks at 160mb on wired)
Simply can;t beat it.
And its cheaper than BT too!0 -
Anyone got the Fibre and line rent £266 for a year* deal MSE is referring to?
I just clicked through to uSwitch, where the deal is advertised. Click through from there to VM and the deal is nowhere to be seen, just their normal offers. I was interested in that one specifically because it's quite cheap and comes with a 12 month contract.
Edit: They must have been in the process of changing the deal. It's now working but at £5 for 12 months, plus line rental. Even better!
Be aware though, buried in VM's t&c is a £24 "disconnection fee" if you cancel during or even after the minimum term, this is on top of any early termination fees is you try to quit early.0 -
Anyone know if the Virgin Media £266 deal is available for existing customers? The MSE post says it is but the uSwitch pages take you to Virgin which only shows the deal for new customers. Am I looking in the wrong place?
