Going crazy trying to cancel Sky

I think that is the problem in general. People don't read the terms of a contract and then get upset when they can't do what they want.
In terms of whether it would stand in court or not - that is a very interesting idea. I would think that Sky's response would simply be to say they need to confirm that the person cancelling is the account holder and they are unable to match signatures (like banks do). I don't know if OFCOM would have an issue as after receiving the letter it is Sky that calls back - it isn't as if they are ignoring the letter.0 -
If you buy goods, the seller cannot over-ride your rights under the Sale of Goods Act with any amount of t&c's. People have rights too, with regard to cancelling services.
I think a lot of Sky's so-called t&c's (with regard to terminating services) are simply bluff.
When push comes to shove, if you have cancelled your subscription formally, by letter, to their registered address, then that is that! You will never see it challenged in court because Sky would always have to cave in.
Can you imagine the court-room scenario. "This customer cancelled his subscription, my Lud, but refused to answer the phone". He owes us a ton of money".
It is hilarious.0 -
Cancel the direct debit and email/write saying you have done so; providing a phone number they can contact you on.0

This thread has been running for quite some time now and the OP has not returned to it since telling everyone he knows better.
I have just written to their postal address in Livingstone cancelling my subscription (letter posted Saturday) so I await with much interest what will happen now.
I will not cancel the DD as I know this caused me problems last time I moved.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

A friend of mine had similar problems trying to cancel his Sky services, it took him a few weeks, complaints to customer services and a letter to the CEO. He refused to speak to them on the phone. He did manage it in the end though. Would have probably been easier to talk to them, but he's stubborn!
When I was cancelling, I went in there, prepared for battle, but actually it was a very easy process in the end. They did try to retain me, but once I had explained my reasons for cancelling, they were very helpful.0 -
