    Not from Sky they don't.
You can still be arrears if you fail to pay the unpaid bill. Are you saying Sky simply cease the service and don't chase the debt through collectors and ultimately court if a proper cancellation is not followed?

That's not possible, only the account holder can authorise or cancel a DD, not the payee.
    .

This bit is not quite accurate in respect of the OPs situation. Once a DD is set up the payee can indeed 'reactivate' it and this is actually very standard with some types of DD such as insurance.

An example: Some insurance companies will append the DD reference with the year. When they auto-renew your policy the DD reference will change. I found this out to my cost when i cancelled a car insurance policy. My letter arrived too late and the DD was already set up. I cancelled the one i saw on my account but of course the new one went out anyway since it had a different ref. The bank immediately refunded the money but the fact is once you give authorisation for a DD there really is very little you can do (besides changing bank) to stop then taking more.

I'm saying the final bill is for FUTURE services, not for services already received, if you do not pay it they cut you off.
You do not receive any services you have not paid for.

Sky cannot and donot write to credit reference agency's files, because it is not credit and no credit agreement is in place.

If you agree to continually buy something for a period of time and then do not, it is a breach of contract but it is NOT a credit default.

Using online chat to cancel is a bit like pulling teeth.....a very slow conversation with the CS agent desperately spinning it out in the hope that you will be worn down ....but it DOES work:D

Again I'll ask; are you saying Sky simply cease the service and don't chase the debt through collectors and ultimately court if a proper cancellation is not followed?
I'm certain a CCJ would lead to a poor credit rating just as surely as a credit default?

    Again you'll ask? lol.

IF they decide to take you to county court for breach of contract, AND the court wants to hear a case of Sky wanting to bill you for services they did not provide, AND you loose and then IF you STILL do not pay you may get a CCJ.

Sky do not and cannot report to credit reference agency, cannot be clearer.

Well, you failed to answer in the first post.

So, are you now effectively telling the OP he was correct to simply cancel the Direct Debit and that Sky will just suspend his service and never chase for the month's notice as required by their contract?

Or could you be clearer? (lol:p)

As with any of the telecommunication companies, if the first direct debit can't be taken they will normally reapply for it if it failed due to funds or advise the customer about the non payment and give them a time scale as to when it will be reapplied for or turned off and cancelled if payment hadn't been received. They can't and wouldn't switch services off straight away and cancel them as that would mean the customer would lose their telephone number if the line is also with them and is cancelled and, as has been mentioned, it may just be a mistake by the bank or their credit card expired and needing updated or a host of other legitimate reasons why the payment could have failed

What this means is the service continues after the payment was due for a period of time to give the customer time to pay, fix the problem, or get the funds. if they don't pay the services will eventually get blocked or cancelled so the customer has services, unpaid for, from the date the payment was due up to the point they were actually switched off.

This means they would be due money for services they have had and not paid for. So, as mentioned numerous times, cancelling the DD would put them in debt with the company. What is so hard to understand about that?

Sky do not report to Credit Reference Agency's.
Sky TV is paid in advance it is not a credit agreement.

    no its a service agreement
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

No what I was saying, was what I said.

Sky cannot and do not have access to credit reference agencies files.

Suggestion that cancelling your DD will affect your credit history is utter nonsense.

Whether he cancels or doesn't, makes no difference to me, but at least he has some actual facts to make an informed choice.

That's pretty much the level of my interest in someone elses Sky cancellation. If you want to discuss it for days, go for it.
