I thought that my hungary vignette for not paying the correct road toll was sorted out as i stated before i paid the fine but they increased it so I ignored the letter. because i had already paid i have now received a letter from Rossendale (Professional ) debt collection agency stating that i owe £184 plus their costs, which is not the right amount. anyone any idea as to what i should do now.

    Ignore it.

See my photo a few posts up? I now have another folder full of them since then. I ignore everything now, I no longer speak to them, yet they still keep sending me more reminders and new "fines".
I'm wondering if it is even worth keeping the letters now. If these were in anyway valid, my company would be prime candidates for enforcement as the alleged debt must be well into 6 figures by now.

    Nothing will come of it.

  • Hi

Can anyone help! I have received a STR from EPC for the M50 in Ireland during the month of September. Which seemed very strange as myself nor my car were out of the country that month. The photo showed a HGV with my car registration. I have contacted the company to appeal, as they advised, I emailed the Irish police to inform them that someone has used my reg illegally, they asked for an English policeman to varify my car is a car not a HGV and email them with details. All of these emails were sent in my appeal back to the company. But today I have received another letter thanking me for my communication about that case, but would I kindly pay up or else extra penalty notices will be added. One part of me wants to just pay up and make it go away but if this lorry continues to use my registration I could be paying out for fines all over Europe!

You probably need to explain this to the DVLA to ask them to put a 'block' on release of your car data (in special circumstances they can do that). I suspect the DVLA in this sort of situation can require applicant bodies seeking your car's data, to verify the make & model of the vehicle first as a double check and not release your name & address if the answer is that it's a HGV. You might need a crime number from your local Police but see what the DVLA say by email first.

I would email the DVLA to ask them how to cover this and - if they are unhelpful - tell them that any data they release in future now they know about this cloning, will be contrary to the DPA Principles which will result in you reporting the DVLA to the ICO.

Do not try to do this by phone, you need a paper trail.

As for the letters you keep getting, send EPC a section 10 Notice under the DPA, reiterating the issue and requiring them to cease processing your data and to respond accordingly within 21 days or you will report them to the ICO.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
