Cancelled sky

Hi all

Bit the bullet yesterday and cancelled my sky tv and broadband package. Was paying full whack for my tv and the only incentive they offered me for staying was free broadband for 2 years (saving of 7.50) a month and 25% percent off my tv for 8 months.

Wasn't enough to keep me.

They have given me 31 days till they cut me off and I was just going to phone bt and set that up. However heard a few stories that sky might phone me back up and offer me a better deal?

If so, how long would I be likely waiting on this phonecall or offer?

Be quite happy to stay with sky but just so dear at the moment, especially with them losing champions league next year

You should be able to check the Online offers in "MySky" already, certainly by Monday. Your marketing settings do need to have been set to allow Sky to make such contact, however.

The best deals are usually offered to those who actually allow the cancellation to take effect, so one month later.

I cancelled tv on 15th September and there is still nothing on My Sky for me. I had the emailed survey and one call (two days after cancelling), which I was unable to take.
  • Only offer showing show far is to do with introducing a friend.

    Will sit tight for now

Cashbacks for other companies, if any, are quite poor.

PlusNet had an offer of £150 (I believe), which dropped to £35.35around September 15th and now it's down to £10.10.

I got a call within about 3 weeks, (although I think they had tried to call before that but I couldn't answer) offering us 60% off. Got the works, movies, HD, sports, for £29, no tie in. Sit tight, it will come :)

Yeah, Sky would be foolish to offer too enticing a deal in the cancellation early stages. Plenty would simply call their bluff on this if it was as simple as that or if there was a guaranteed offer to everyone.

About to cancel Sky myseld - is it easy? I have heard that they are difficult to deal with.

They'll of course put you through to retentions and try to persuade you not to cancel. They're good at it, since that's what they do all day, every day.
That's not being 'difficult', so just stick to your intentions if you want to leave.

The best tactic I've heard of to shorten a "retention" call is just to answer every question with the sentence, "I don't wish to discuss that, I just want to cancel". Otherwise, you'll be kept in conversation for quite some time if you are not careful.
  • I was totally honest the retentions guy on the phone and he was sound.

Just kept saying it was too dear and that bt were offering a good deal at the moment
