You should "hold out" for a figure which you are prepared to pay, no more no less.

Agree with above - set a figure in your head and stick to it.

you'll see that a few weeks ago, posters were reporting offers of 60% discount.
I cancelled two weeks ago. Logged into My Sky the same day and they were offering me 35% discount. They'll have to improve that offer for me to stay. 60% discount would persuade me.
Had a missed call from them a couple of days afterwards but nothing since. I'm prepared to lose the service, so it's up to them to make me a good offer.
  • Rang Sky this morning as been on half price for a year and had slipped my memory that a year had just passed until I checked my bank statement! They had taken full whack.

So I rang this morning asked straightway for retentions , said I wanted to cancel a rather nice girl said if I offer you another year at 50% discount will you stay!. I couldn't believe it, as two years ago after several phone calls haggling they wouldn't budge so I did cancel, but within a few weeks were ringing for me to go back with 50% discount again! The phone call all in all lasted around 5 minutes! She even offered me a free month next month to recover the money they had taken this month for my deal lapsing!
So now paying just over £33.00 for full HD package including sports.

My belief is that they knew I wasn't bluffing as I HAVE cancelled before, someone I know has never had any discount as her husband can't manage without his Sky sports for one weekend and she has never had any discount offered.

Also I believe near Christmas is a good time as there are always offers and Virgin usually have offers on and they don't want to lose out to them.

So my tip for money saving Sky deals is to cancel and in a few weeks I am certain they'll be begging for you back! That's if you or your other half can manage without for a few weeks!
  • My sky got cut off today, all I was offered when I cancelled was 25% off and seeing as I was on a 50% offer that wasn't going to persuade me, so I'm waiting on offers to drop on my door mat now or in the my sky section
