Before you drop it, ask him to make a list of the top three places he has always wanted to visit or the top three sites he has always wanted to see.
Then you can compromise around that. As it's your anniversary, perhaps a city break somewhere a little romantic?? Maybe Rome or Prague, it doesn't have to be cold, we had a very romantic break in Prague and it was 70 degrees !!
The world is full of beautiful cities, but then again you just might want to go wild and do Vegas baby !! I've been, I loved it, but once was enough, for me......I'm lying actually, I would definitely go again!! lol0 -
What makes a really special moment for you? For him?
I love to travel, but some trips have been better than others. One day I decided to try and figure out exactly what it was that made some trips fabulous and others just okay. In my mind I went through each trip and noted all the real highlights-and saw a theme- encounters with big wildlife. Now I plan my trips around these encounters. I got the Lonely Planet book 'a year watching wildlife' and that features when to go where for big wildlife events, and it's brilliant! I've been touched by a wild mountain gorilla in Uganda, touched a wild grey whale mother and baby and snorkeled with a whale shark and sealions in Mexico, humpback whales in Tonga and basking sharks in cornwall, This is just my example, it may not be right for you, but perhaps it will give you food for thought. What about sporting events? Festivals? Theatre? A favourite foreign food sampled in its own country of origin? Visiting a charity youre passionate about? Museums of a particular theme? Something unusual- camel racing festival in Pushkar, India, the elephant games in Sauraha, Nepal. What about seeing where your favourite movie was filmed and going to some of the filming locations- Lord of the Rings in New Zealand, Harry Potter in UK. If you can figure out just what it is that makes him go ooooh, makes you go ahhhhh, then you can work out a special trip around it. And all the other experiences that go with it will be a bonus. Lonely Planet do a whole series of books on the 'A year of ...' theme (sports, festivals) and Amazon let you see sample pages of lots of their books if you go online. Also lots of 'Amazing places to go / things to do before you die' type books. Check out your library or local Branch of 'the works' or if you have time car boot sales (my other passion -I get loads of travel books from there)
I hope you can sort something out

How about a compromise with Cinque Terre? Nice hotels, good food, fabulous walking trails, sort of magical because you're cut off from the outside world a little bit.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

How about Sabah, Malaysia. A good mix of beautiful beaches, wildlife & outdoor adventures. You can visit the Orang utang sanctuary, an island where Turtles nest, trip down the river to see Proboscis Monkeys. There is even a Kili type mountain, Mount Kinabolu, that your husband can trek up. Hotels are fabulous and there is a real mix of cultures and foods- Malay, Indian, Chinese. There is a Sunday market at Kota Belud where you may see the Bajau horsemen and many interesting medicinal and handicraft products.0
