For our 25th we did lots of little special things through the whole year, so didn't actually do a special holiday. It meant not such a pressure for the one big thing to be perfect plus there was always another little treat to look forward to.Personally I thought it was more romantic because in lots of little ways we were being reminded of the occasion the whole year long.

We've just done Silver leaf class on the Rocky Mountaineer Calgary to Vancouver. Fantastic service, nothing too much trouble, beautiful countryside.

We also did a Valentine's trip on the Orient Express a couple of years ago, a few hours spent going round the outskirts of London (pretty scruffy in places but the principle was nice) whilst being fed lovely food.

Even if you don't do a 'holiday' why not do a top-end day out or weekend away in the UK, don't just let it slip past. Perhaps if you can introduce your OH into enjoying some of the finer things in life in small doses, he'd be open to doing that sort of thing more often.

How about something off the map for a week in humanitarian needs and holiday for the remainder.

Example - certain African countries stopped 2nd hand underwear but ladies cannot work without a bra (costs 3 months salary). My church have gone over with much needed bras to allow women to work this is free and paid for and they are spending a week doing voluntary aid (travel paid) staying in the local villages. They are then staying in a hotel on the beach (self funding) for their 2nd week on holiday.

They loved the experience and although gave one week holiday up they both got a huge amount from it. Helping local schools, helping dig wells, helping run an orphanage then a week r&r with only hotel cost to relax.

It's just something to consider and I know not every ones coffee cup but it's an option to give a unique experience had lower costs as charities pay for flights.

    As the title really!

Its our 25th next year and I would like to go to somewhere where there's a little bit of a wow factor, somewhere where you wouldn't necessarily go 2 years following if you get my drift!

And this is where the 'discussions' have hit the buffers.

So if you were planning a holiday for a special occasion how did you choose where to go?

Coach trip to Paris? Romantic and reasonably priced. :)

We always have a holiday around our anniversary - from the New Forest to Florida to Scotland etc.

But I think my favourite was our 20th WA visiting St Martin in the Scilly Isles for 3 or 4 nights - via Helicopter to St Mary's - and a couple of nights in St Austell to visit the Eden Project on the way home.

Lots of fresh air, walking & wildlife. It was so peaceful & beautiful & we were blessed with excellent weather (end September).

The whole lot cost as much as our usual fortnight in the sun!

    Xmas Saver!
for my friends 40th bday I paid for us to go on the orient express, in the UK there are 2 trains depending on whether your midlands up or down south, maybe combine a day trip with a weekend break.

My 40th, I went to Dom Rep, it was amazing, took DD, (Id been in 2005) we did dophin, sealion and shark encounters , had a day on a posh boat,

This yr as it was DDs last yr at primary school, we went to Goa at easter, overall was a good break, but different culture.

My ideal plan is Cuba, san Fransico, Kenya - get there eventually.

A thought but have a look at travelsphere they do cross country America, or Canada and the posh train x n
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

    I've been Money Tipped!
If I were you I would book a holiday that you like the look of and surprise him as long obviously as it is not to somewhere you think he would hate.

It's not rocket science. You choose one week, he chooses one week.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
