Help please with unscrupulous retailer

Two days ago we went into litecraft in Oldham and purchased two identical lights, total cost £322. The store was due to close at the time at 7pm and it was 645 and although the store was still open the warehouse bit attached was not. We paid on credit card and was given a receipt and told to collect today (Saturday)
So today we went to the store to collect but before we did we asked for measurements of the lights and decided on reflection that they might be a little too large. It is so deceptive in a big warehouse on how tall the ceilings are.
We had a look around the store to see if there was anything else we liked. There wasn't so we asked for a refund instead. Now at this stage remember we haven't got the goods, we haven't taken possession of the goods at all.
We were told that we could not have a refund only a credit note or exchange. Now how is this legal? We haven't even taken possession of the goods.
It has left our credit card account now.
We left the store in disgust with no lights and no refund.
PLease help us(((((((
You don't have to "take possession" you just have to "agree" to buy, evidence of this "agree" ment is you paying, for which you have a receipt which is perfect evidence of your AGREEment
That said they are being a bit mean but they are acting within the law as described
Moral of this story is do not buy (enter into an agreement) on a WHIM - make sure you are sure _ or shop somewhere that does offer money back if you are not HAPPY policy
Many large stores have a 'bring back' policy and it easy to get swept away with this is LEGAL policy process, but it aintWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
The review centre was wha.....
!
Irellevant!!!!!
You have been told the law (the difference between right and wrong) and they are right and you are wrong
Many, indeed most company's operate within in the law and no more
You should not buy (enter into any agreement) unless you are sure or stick to large companies with bring back policy
You have also been given sound advice to approach your credit card company who will probably fight your case
You do need to stop bad mouthing a company that is operating within the law because you might say TOO much by suggesting they are operating illegallyWhen will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?0 -
The store is acting legally but it's no way to build up a good customer reputation.
This company is doing what the law requires, a good company does better.0 -
The store can use discretion. If the op went " I know my rights" ( they didn't) and became angry and argumentative, or made threats, could you blame the store for being awkward?
I had a look through the bad reviews one one site -most complaints were silly eg this light fitting has 6 screws to hold it instead of two, it's a bad design. And " this light fitting wasn't worth the £ 18.or it took too long to arrive( company comment on this by pointing out how many weeks it would take and that this was written in the paperwork.
From what I can see it seems a very good company.0 -

No, you are the second poster to erroneously suggest that the OP has recourse to her bank/credit card provider. Even the OP has admitted that a charge back is destined to fail as it is a mechanism to assist customers dealing with genuinely unscrupulous retailers who do not adhere to the law, not to punish a retailer who has acted correctly.0 -
The review centre was what I was reading. I cannot post the link as I am a new poster and therefore not allowed. However
That was what I was reading.
The breakdown (Please check if don't believe me) as the way you put the word 'lots' in your post suggests I am lying.
There are 180 reviews
54 5 stars
37 4 stars
2 3 stars
3 2 stars
84 1 stars
Doesn't sound like an excellent company to me.
You can't put a lot of store in these type of reviews sites, as already mentioned people will always tend to post bad reviews than post at all.0 -

OP, you should change the thread title as it's misleading.
"Help with my mistake and a company that has acted within the law".
Doesn't have quite the same ring to it though I suppose.0
