Didn't know about kennel cough. Seems it normally clears-up on its own, but may make vulnerable older dogs more ill. So, it's a bit like flu, which I've not had this year, either the proper sort or the man-variety, probably because there was no Panto. I have missed the social side of it....:(

A lizard in March is pretty early, but they've probably been about on our top hedge bank when I haven't been sawing and burning stuff. Not far off finishing laying the hazels and a few oak up there, but ran out of paracord to hold it down. Yes, I cheat! :p

Not much to report. As you know, our builder friend was great for a couple of years enabling our refurb to happen at an affordable price, but lost the plot when he started to focus on his own move to Oz. He didn't leave us enough clearance under the doors in the conservatory to finish the floor, even after we stopped him and made him start again. He wasn't well at that point. This has left us with a real head ache!

I think we are faced with dropping the floor ourselves. FiL, who's 83, can do the woodwork, but obviously, only for 3 or 4 hours a day, so it will take a 'holiday' down here for him to fix it, with us doing all the donkey work. It's a big room - 30m2.:( So mad, because it was the builder who persuaded me not to do a concrete floor "to save time and labour."

Meanwhile, our builder friend has problems of his own. The area of Oz he self-built in has suffered two major droughts now in a row, so it no longer looks lush and green like it did in his photos of the plot prior to moving there......Too many 40c days as well. :(

Of the two problems we have, I'm glad to have mine, not his!

dave... if its the door that wont open , I hired a special saw that you set to the height and just run it inder the door and it takes anything from a slither to an inch off without even taking the door off

Thanks alfie but these are UPVC doors and frames. Otherwise, with two time-served carpenters in the family we'd have sorted this out by now. It's still a major carpentry job to drop the floor, but probably the cheapest and and least disruptive solution.:undecided We use it, but we haven't moved in properly yet.

We could just put lino stuff down, but after all the hassle we've had with what should have been the simplest part of the re-build, I want it right, or it will just annoy me!

At least my bit was OK. I did the foundations. They didn't move in last year's drought. :D

Edit: The other idea I have is to pull the floor up completely and concrete it, like I'd originally planned, re-purposing all the wood for a shed. That make me feel good, but I think it might be optimistic because of other stuff going on this year.

Back to Winter here with heavy hail showers & bitter wind. Feel myself slipping into hibernation mode again.

Yes, there doesn't look like there's much to crow about in the long range forecast, but it's not looking like a repeat of last March either. We had the hail yesterday and it really hurt; the sheep stampeded to get under the trees! :(

The weather didn't matter today, as we were in Exeter trying to pin down final decisions on the en-suite. Last month, we sat and planned, got the scale drawings etc, but now we hear, "Oh that colour and range is being phased-out." Really not what you want when you've spent days trying to coordinate this with that from 3 or 4 sources.

We stomped-off and decided to visit a proper builders' merchant with a large showroom on the trading estate. It was deserted. Nice woman spent a few hours with us in a very down-to-earth way. So, I think we may have cracked it after all, including the price, which was partly down to the builder's trade account, but it looks as if they're desperate to do business with anyone just now. Nobody visited their big display area while we were there. Is it the B word....or what? :undecided

Goodness Alfie - not a nice person to have near you - you might catch Mad Cow's Disease off her.

Dave - things are booming here building wise. Plenty happening - don't know why. But the sales of stuff are stretched too thin I think with loads of competition so there are good offers to be had.
