Lucille I'm very sorry to hear about your mum, try to look after yourself at this time. It's easily forgot.
Thanks for the tree advice everyone. I personally don't mind if they get a bit larger than 10 foot but my neighbours might, given how close we all are! I like the idea of s crab apple, I had two in the last garden, very pretty, I never used the fruits though. I've also looked at amalanchia before Dave and think they're lovely, a definite I think. It would be nice to have things that are good for wildlife too. I adored my ceonothus at the last house, so that could be a possibility. The wedding tree cake is beautiful but rather large? The other tree I would love is the one that smells like toffee apples but it's far too big. However, there is a wooded area opposite my house and a large open patch of ground the developers will "landscape" with the type of shrubs you see on roundabouts no doubt, so I'm thinking I could probably pop one in there and no one would really notice! But I wouldn't get the smell in the autumn as the wind would blow through it to my house!0 -
Cold here with massive hailstones this morning. We had a power cut for most of the day - funny how you still keep turning on lights to look for something & forget that it's off.
Been trying to get paint off the porch tiles and clean them up. I notice the grouting is cracked and will need redoing. Funny how they are all powdery with the grout - I'll need to scrub them a few times to get that away I think. It's freezing in there so I'm suffering from hypothermia & stiff knees.
Good to see that it's almost there is the porch. It's been a long time on the go but other jobs kept getting worked on instead. It's bigger than I thought now that all the rubbish has been removed from it. The wood lining I salvaged does look the business. I'm pleased I did that now although it's taken a lot of filling & three coats of paint. Paint & varnish isn't the same these days since they took the smelly chemicals out of them you need to do loads of re-coating.
It's inky black out there tonight.0 -
Sorry to quote myself, but I'm not really! It's a well-planned operation, likely to make much tighter legislation regarding drone use easier to push through...... Interesting who'll appear on You've Been Framed with regard to this...
Well, now we know. It was poor Mr & Mrs Bloggs, who were just minding their own business, till their faces were splashed all over the tabloids!
But, oh dear me, it may all have been a terrible mistake......
'Sussex Police said they were relying on eye witnesses and there may have been no "genuine drone activity in the first place"
Det Ch Supt Jason Tingley said no footage of a drone had been obtained.
He said there was "always a possibility" the reported sightings of drones were mistaken.'
Yeah, right. :cool:0 -
It's a funny carry on. I think there's a lot more to this than meets the eye.
It's damp & cold but wasn't too bad a day for this time of year. Had a beach walk with low tide being really low.
It seems more messy in here - I think it's all the plaster dust & chaos of things being moved into piles to enable work. I feel I'll never be tidy. It's an exhausting time of year yet I haven't done anything at all christmassy this year!0 -
ok day 1.... well part of day 1 !!
having qued at what u class a small airport for what seemed hours [infact 2] finally got to go on board ... with mum having special pass to use walker to the ramp and thus get on amongst the first to get seated .... oh no, aint gonna happen ! by the time they sorted the ramp all the other passengers were on board, sat with belts on and bag of sweets to hand while we shuffled up the aisle . laeft terra firma half hour late ... couldn't see diddly squat from 100ft up till we landed in dense fog so could have landed anywhere for all we know !
arrived in the dark at hotel so again tomorrow could prove we are either precariously on a cliff top or tucked between a multi story car park and a supermarket
ventured down to evening meal , sadly leaving our des res 1980's room for an hour or so , to find us "kindly " put on the same table as a couple of which we had no connection or need BUT if we hadn't I would not have been kept enthralled by the ladies OBSESSION with why the waiter didn't mention the "soup" on the list of starters ... I feebly said well maybe if she had read/asked for it she would indeed have got [bl**dy] soup ... but apparently it was the waiters job to tell her verbally what she could read on the menu ..... at this point mum kicked me under the table ...:rotfl:
tucked up in bed now im listening to the majority of elderly returning to their beds having spent time playing bingo ... coughing spluttering and farttting ..... oh joy
I am not stating that I will never do this again ....YET
tomorrow is another day and maybe I may just get a bit of mercenary pleasure from these odd balls .... it IS them that's odd isn't it ????0 -
:think:Well, Alfie.................
Tomorrow is another day as they say. Have you got a room to yourself or is it bunks?0 -
Bunks!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I should laugh.... a lady in the village heard DW and I would be on our own this Christmas, so she's invited us for the afternoon on Boxing Day.....
She's 85. :snow_grin Shouldn't it be the other way around?:huh:0 -
Hope you have a better time of it today Alfie, Feeling slightly fragile this morning we had our Yule dinner yesterday and the Bumbu rum goes down to easy, another day of proper mizzle and we still haven't been able to flashband up the conservatory at this rate the roofer will be round to fix it before we are able to bodge it.
Did my Christmas prep with phoning the local Indian and booking the take-out for tomorrow's dinnerI made the mistake of wandering into Sainsburys yesterday and wandering right out the insanity was overwhelming, I have the utmost respect for anyone that runs the gauntlet of the supermarket aisles im far to lazy since the kids have grown :rotfl: so have a wonderful relaxed day however you celebrate

Does that mean she's going to be on her own, Dave? It's a good way of getting company without waiting to be asked if she is.
Ivy garland made and draped along the bannister. Holly bunged in a pot, the rest kept for placing over the mini Chard forest now visible in the garden (to dissuade the Idiot Cat from putting his bum - and wot comes out of it - anywhere near the edibles). Candles lit and more Mulled Cider being consumed - and there is now a glass flagon thingy sitting empty on the windowsill. Perhaps making a terranium with plants actually suitable for it could be a New Year plan...I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
